Just drew a 12a west AZ late deer tag. Im searching for an outfitter or guide for the area. Has anyone heard anything about Duwane Adams, good or bad. Please post your response. Also, if anyone knows of another reputable guide in the area let me know. THANKS

You cannot go wrong with that decision.
Enough said.

If you want a big buck, good hunt and a Known Reputable Guide who has hunted this area successfully for years, call him. He killed three bucks over 200" last year and 8 bucks over 180 in the past two years most wrote up in MuleyCrazy or RockyMountain game and fish go to his website and see. www.arizonabiggamehunting.com I have used him and he is the real deal. 1-520-385-4995.... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

You absolutely cannot go wrong with Duwane. That man knows the Kaibab like no other. He's hunted it over 20 years straight. Like Allen, I've been on the Kaibab with him and was just blown away by his knowledge and intensity when he hunts. He's good...he's really good. Give him a call.

I will second, third, and fourth Duwane Adams as the man to call for Kaibab monster mule deer. Been in his camps before and have seen him and his guides in action. They flat out produce!

Congrats on the super draw!

Never met him but all I've heard is the best things about him. Actually I did hear him speak at an ADA event. You'd be making a mistake not to call him. Also, I think he has a book out about hunting muleys on the Kiabab. Might be worth picking up.

Duwane has a book called "Hunting Monster Mule Deer on the Kaibab" and Brian sells it here on Monster Muley's. He also will have a DVD out real soon on glassing/hunting strategy's for the Kaibab, I think they just got back with the camera crew and are finishing the DVD. Anyway, you wouldnt be hurting your chances using him......... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

I have hunted 12 west twice in my life with a rifle, both times I contacted Duwane to use his map service, both times everything he said was right on the money. The man knows the plateau and the herds patterns. He told me what the herd would do as the hunt progressed,I killed the 2 biggest Muleys of my life on those hunts. This year I did not draw any tags in my home state of Arizona. I will hunt the Kaibab with my bow,but I will first contact Duwayne for his help.If I could cash out for a guided hunt, and drew another tag on the Kaibab I would definatly contact him for his services. He knows Elk pretty good also. You will be impressed with his skills and knowledge.Good luck on your hunt.Remember to let all the little ones go past because if you do a Monster will eventually be showing up!!!!

I talked with Duwane last week on coues deer.

He seemed very knowlegable, does any body have any experience with Duwane on coues deer. I drew a 34B December coues deer hunt and am considering a guide.

Ive done a lot of research on "outfitted" hunts. Is there a difference in price with just hiring a guide? For example, what would hiring D. Adams cost for his services? Just a round about guess would be helpful.

I think elk is around 4500 for the whole hunt and coues is around 2500 for the december hunt. These would be outfitted where food, lodging, 1x1 guide etc..........I am not totally sure what you are asking wiszard. I guess if you brought your own food, transportation, lodging etc up to camp and just wanted a guide that would possibly be different. Many of these hunts Duwane does are in very remote areas like the Kaibab where there isnt a lodge around to stay in or accomodations except the tent camp so just hiring a guide would be kinda difficult......... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Okay, so someone might say I'm a bit biased since Duwane has been a good friend since 1987 or so and we co-authored the "How To Hunt Coues deer' book. BUT...

I've been writing articles for the last two decades about big mule deer his hunters have killed on the Kaibab, and trust me when I saythat interviews with any of his hunters are usually raves about Duwane's camps and his or his guides' ability to find good bucks. In most cases they relate tales about seeing 100 deer a day with many being 'shooter' bucks. The few hunters who don't get to tag a decent buck usually miss opportunities at such or simply pass, waiting for a bigger one.

Plus, you won't find a man who is more of a straight-shooter than Duwane. When it comes to "telling it like it is" he's is at the top of the ladder. -TONY

Thanks Bura Nut- Thats what I was looking for. That honestly seems a little cheap considering his track record. And nothing says more about a guy who tells you like it is. It sucks to hear that a particular ranch, for example, has a lot of trophy quality animals and when youre on the hunt all you see are little tweaks! Ive never been on a guided hunt but I've heard stories. Big $$ spent with very little trophy quality would piss me off. He sounds like a fantastic producer of big bucks.

No problem. He really tries to make all his hunters happy and since its public ground, you dont have a fence issue, you already know the genetics and just deal with the weather........... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

He is a good Christian honest man.

Now we have all talked good about Mr. Adams, how
about any guides out there we should stay away from
that take shooters up on the plateau or the strip?

I have a question for you all that have purchase a map service from Mr. Adams or from anyone else??? What do you expect out of a map service??? I have talked to duwane and he is a flat out down to earth kind of guy. I will not down him at all but would love to hear from you all about your experience with map services!

I got it and he sent a couple of copied pages from a map with spots marked in order of priority. I transferred them onto my good maps. I figure I am buying his advice and knowledge of the unit and didn't really care if I got good maps or not. Just figured it would allow us to eliminate a lot of travel and hope he is on the money.

Are the map packages different for each customer that requests them of the same area? Seems that would be very difficult to accomplsh.

Most units like the Kaibab are plenty big enough so when more than one person is provided a map service, Duwane doesnt send you to the same spots. He keeps files on each hunter using the map service and which unit they are hunting in so when an additional client requests the map service, he outlines areas away from the other clients..... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

This mapping service is only good for peple that don't do their own research and want to know that you shoul glass off "high points" and things that any serious hunter can figure out. I don't think, correct me if I am wrong, he tells you about specific bucks that he has seen in yrs. past, their feeding/watering habits, bedding areas, etc. IMO stuff that a serious hunter sometimes can't figure out on his own b/c he or she doesn't have enough time to scout. What I am trying to say is that it could be a waste of money if you consider yourself a good hunter and don't need to be told to find a high pt. and get up on top to glass type info. I can look at a topo map of a unit w/o going there and identify these places, I don't need to pay hundreds of dollars to have someone copy me a black and white copy of a forest service map I already have and tell me "to get up on top and glass" on each high pt. in the area. "DUUUUUUHHHH." Hope noboby takes this personal JMO on the info given for the money.

I'm sure that the areas that he outlines for you are areas where big deer have come out of on a regular basis. Maybe specific areas that hold a good supply of water, feed, etc. So, if you dont have time to scout and find where the water is, he's already done that. I do see what you're saying though. He probably wouldnt send you to a high point in an area that he's never seen any big bucks in. Sounds to me like he has scouted the whole area and knows it. He knows where the bucks are and where they arent. Sometimes its best to know where they WON'T be.

If you haven't made up your mind yet, then I will a 13th or 14th on Duwane. I have not seen so many respectful emails about one guide on a BB ever. Good Luck.

sdr3, I would have in the past just agreed with you, but I have maybe a different angle on this to think about. With the cost of gas and the size of the Kaibab, you can drive to alot of high spots after looking at topo's and spend alot of time getting a lay of the land, locating a few bucks etc....but will have spent more money on two trips up there and back from Phoenix then you would on the map service. Not saying you are wrong but if someone has never been on the Kaibab and has to travel from a farther spot than say Phoenix, the map service may allow you to spend the time in the areas that are productive instead of driving around learning the area. Just a thought.........The map service for most outfitters is around 250.00......... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Ok, I just sent off my check for Duwane's map service so we can stop this thread now before everyone in the unit has a map.:)
I talked to Duwane the other day for about a 1/2 hour and was impressed with what I heard. And the way I look at it is I have a Kaibab tag and a archery bull tag and only so many weekends to scout. So this is going to help a bunch. I can hit the Kaibab a couple weeks before the hunt and also scout my elk unit.

Did you sign up?
My farther drew the same tag, and yes He'll be hunting with Duwane..
Good luck and shoot straight

Yes, I signed up. I talked with Duwane again last night at the elk seminar in Mesa and he had sent out the maps yesterday. When my wife brought in the mail today they were here already. He told me to call when I get them and he will explain all the info. I am really looking forward to the hunt. First time I have ever drawn a real tag. Good luck to your dad. Hope he gets a big one.

$250 and he said that usually only about 5 people sign up a year. I was shocked when he said that. He then pointed out a guy that was sitting about 50 feet away and said that he had the same tag as I did but last year and called and talked to him but never ended up buying the service. And after the hunt talked to Duwane and said he wished he would have.
