So with 12 points I finally drew a Manti Res Muzz tag. I am really excited and look forward to chasing elk on my home unit. So I have noticed this year that it is easier to draw some of Utah's Limited entry areas as a non-resident. Sounds like 9 points got this tag this year with for the out of staters. Does anyone else think this is kind of messed up?

Anyways, Looking forward to the hunt!

Congrats Gonefishin! Looks like it'll take me 4 more years. I've put in for the same tag for the last 8 years and haven't beaten the odds yet. That's my home turf as well. I hope you connect with a monster!

so different odds for nonresidents in different areas is messed up? I don't get your thinking.

Call me crazy, but shouldn't it be as easy, if not easier for a resident to draw a tag.

12 points for a resident to draw.
9 for for non res to draw the same tag.

Seems backwards.

Anyways, I will be loosing my Utah residency next year so I guess I have a better chance to draw future Utah tags than if I stayed here. I have 9 cougar points. Maybe next year!

I had 10 points going into this year for the Manti Muzzy. Cant wait till next year when I should draw the tag. I do have a few friends who got a manti tag this year, so it is going to be fun.

I have not seen this years statistics, but years 2006 - 2010 the odds have been almost the same, resident vs non-resident for Manti muzzleloader elk LE tags. Probably the biggest difference is that residents in 2010 were trying for one of 50 tags (25 in the points drawing and 25 in the random drawing) while non-residents were trying for one of 6 tags (same 50/50 split). In 2010 52 non-residents applied for those 6 tags. Also seems that some think this is a tough unit to score on bulls over 330, might have somethin to do with who/how many applies there.
Good luck on your hunt sounds like you will have a great time!

Don't be hateing!

The few tags in the NR pool are for the NR pool. Please, lets not move the goal posts! It's very difficult and expensive to outlast the other NR, only to have a disapointed local complain about your good luck. The F & G and the NR have no control of who or how many Res.hunters apply or choose another unit. High gas prices and lay offs may have limited the numbers of NR applications. The Hunting Fool or Eastman's may have printed a negitive thread on a given unit effecting the draw numbers. At age 56 with 5 elk points (years & dollars invested) the last thing I want is someone hateing on me when I finally draw! The system will never please everyone. We powerless NR fallow the rules layed down in your state and poney up the bucks with hopes for a
ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance at a quality hunt. If you draw a good tag I'd be happy for you! As for us folks that have the poor luck to be born, employed, and tied down to a state with no elk or mule deer. Not all of use are flush with cash or trust fund babies. I will behave myself when I finally visit your state, spend my money and tip your Girlfriends, wives, and daughters at the dinners and shops. The big bucks (fees) to the fish & game will hopefully help your game management and keep your fees low. My involvement with the RMEF and other organizations will help keep habitat and elk hunting going long after I'm gone. Just don't ask of me to feel like I stole someones tag when I finally get choosen.
