So my buddy's father turned 80 last year. He(Mike) was thinking about trying to arrange an elk hunt for him last year but it did not happen. Mike would like to do it this year.

Mike's father was raised and lived his entire life in Wisconsin. He has killed a number of Whitetails over the years. He has never hunted elk and has never hunted outside Wisconsin.

What Mike is hoping to find a ranch in Colorado that can provide his dad with a good opportunity to take a mature bull, (rifle), even though his dad is getting old and is not able to do strenuous hiking. It need not be a trophy or record book type bull, just something his dad would get excited about. He does not want a high fenced hunt, as he wants it to be a "real" hunt.

Mike was thinking that both he and I could go along and "guide" his dad. Mike was hoping he might also be able to purchase a deer tag so he could hunt along with his dad.

I am posting this in the hopes that someone on the site might have personal knowledge with a Ranch that might work for us.

Really appreciate any good information you can offer.

Try contacting Wes Atkinson at Atkinson's Expeditions. He has an 18000 acre ranch in the San Luis valley and should be able to accomodate Mike and his father on a great hunt.

I know of a ranch, but they outfit it and would cost a little money. However, it is an easy hunt as far as elk go. He can set you in a spot and push the brush and the elk 90% of the time will come by these spots he sits his hunters in. Little cabin, no tent! deer tag would be expensive, but they shoot nice ones. Soap Mesa outfitters. You will talk to Tom. Tell him what you want. If you help out a little with some chores and work he may cut you guy's a deal, since you are not all hunting. I know you all want to be with your dad when hunting. But if he tags out, I am sure he could use some help someway.
