Is this Le unit any good? What type of terrain? Seems like I've always seen a few deer traveling through Vernal.

It can be real good if you can get on the private land. Otherwise it is a hard hunt, especially with a muzzleloader. They are real spooky that early in the year. You will hike a lot and glass a lot but if you do it right you can get a pretty good buck. Or settle for a dink 2pt if you are lucky.

Are there any ranches in the area that do tresspass fee hunts that are'nt that expensive or is that not legal in utah? Cant afford to go guided or buy Utah landowner tags. Thanks, Ryan

There is Bird dog outfitter, never checked on prices though.
I second the thing about bucks there. I hunted elk up there last year and while scouting/hunting I seen quite a few deer, there were a couple that were nice bucks but never did see any real big ones.

I drew this unit in 2002 but was in afghanistan during the hunt. My dad turned in my tag, and I drew it again in 2003. We saw several bucks but only one wallhanger. After a two hour stalk on hands and knees I was within 20 yards of the sleeping buck. I thought for sure that he would be mine! With lots of Adrenalen and a little BUCK FEVER I pulled the set trigger on my TC renegade. Only to be surprized that I was not squeezing the set trigger, I was on the fire trigger. Shot right into the ground. Now I hunt with an OMEGA. Only has one trigger, and I don't want to blow a hunt like that again.

I would suggest getting a surveyors map. There is quite a bit of public ground surrounded by private. Spend some time scouting and you should be able to find a good buck. Good Luck!

This unit is 80% private on top. I wouldn't waste my time in this unit. 2dog hunting charges like $4000 for a mule deer hunt.CRAZY>> Don't apply for this unit.
