Last year I was sent on May 19th that I was unsuccessful. This is will be different this year as I have enough to draw a muzzleloader tag. I can't wait for the cards to be hit to make it official. It should not be long before they get hit.

If anyone has any advice for the hunt I would appreciate it.

I can't wait for Fall.

LAST EDITED ON May-05-16 AT 00:12AM (MST)[p]If you want to kill a big bull, contact Strawberry Bay Outfitters (Berryblaster on MM). They spend more time on that unit than anyone and provide an amazing hunt experience.

Just out of curiosity. How many points did you have? That is the tag that I applied for and I had 12 points. According to last years stats, I figured I would have an excellent chance to draw this year. But they only give a couple tags to the top point holders, and if you had more than 12, I am probably out. So just curious. Thanks and good luck.

If you have 12 points you will draw Wasatch muzzy for sure. Last year 67 tags went to max point holders and 10 points pulled the tag. Good Luck to you, I will be there during the archery chasing bulls. Can't wait!

Not sure where you found that info, but I had 11 last year and didn't draw.

According to the stats I found for 2015, 100 percent drew with 13 and 12 points, and 1 out of 6 drew with 11 points, then a few drew with fewer points.

If not one really jumps ship this year, I should be good to go. But if just one or two with 12 or more switch over, I may not draw.

With everything I have read, it may be a mistake to draw that tag now. But I really don't want to wait 20 more years.

Good luck to all.

That'll be a good hunt. I toyed with the idea of drawing that tag myself a few times. I haven't, just more points, but it'll be a lot of fun.

I have 12 points right now and based on what I have seen for results I should be guaranteed tag. Based on one of posts here I am now a bit concerned I thought with 12 points I was guaranteed for this tag but maybe not?

LAST EDITED ON May-09-16 AT 09:02PM (MST)[p]Non-resident- 12 may not draw it. There will be 5 people that had 11 points last year that didn't draw. 6 bonus tags, so you have to hope nobody jumps and you should be okay. But if a few higher point holders switch units, it could take more than 12 to guarantee the tag.

Resident- 12 will draw it for sure. Everyone with 10 points or more drew last year, and half of those with 9 points drew.

This is a fun hunt. You'll see lots of elk. It's just a matter of whether you find the bull you want.

I hope you draw. I worry about point creep on the muzzy tags this year because of the late dates and the new scope law. Good luck! We should know in a week.

My wife drew this tag last year w/ 7pts.
We had a blast scouting & riding wheelers all over getting to know the unit better. We found many big bulls in their summer hidey holes. Many pushing over the 350" mark. But everyone we talked to said the Bulls won't be in the same area come September. the rut changes everything along w/ every archery hunter using hoochie mamas for 4 weeks, then the LE rifle hunters. Needless to say when the muzzy hunt started the elk were scattered & in the deep dark timber or many miles from the roads, which I like anyways.

Her goal was to get a bull bigger than my 320" archery Unitas bull.
We hunted hard for 6 days straight b4 sunup to after sundown. On day 6 after shooting & missing twice in the week, I was able to call a bull into 98yds. W/ 1 shot she put the smack down on a nice 338" 6pt. About 2 miles from truck & 1000ft elevation gain.

So in conclusion, we were into elk everyday. Bulls would sound off but wouldnt cooperate. Very call shy when close to them. Use calls to locate, then sneak into them. Find water / wallows.
We called rag horns in every day.
The elk are pressured for 4 weeks by every hoochie mama blowing archery deer, cow elk hunter, & the LE hunters. Then the LE rifle hunters. B4 muzzy hunters get to the field.

I'm willing to give you some locations of areas were we hunted & wallows we found if interested!

It's a huge unit, don't get caught thinking you need to go to different spots everyday. Find a area & get to know it.

Good luck!!!
