I hope I am understanding this correctly.??
The Fish and Game has stated that the reason for making you choose a region to General Archery Deer hunt in, is so that it will relieve pressure on the opening week of the "Southern Unit" general archery deer hunt ??
OK, now I read an article in the Salt Lake Tribune stating, "the total cap on general Archery Deer is 16,000 hunters, and that there is no cap per region. Meaning, it could be possible to get 80% of Utah General Archery Deer hunters applying for the southern unit.
If most the hunters go for the south, and they sell out(16,000 tags), how many hunters are going to choose to hunt the north, or eastern, or central regions?. Sounds to me like there is going to be alot less pressure in the other regions, NOT so much the south. Of course it might all even out once it goes into the state wide hunting mode after the first week of having to hunt your chosen region.
SO<ALL in ALL,
If I understand this correctly, the fish and game wanted to relieve some pressure on the southern unit hunters by making you choose a region and having to hunt that region the first week, but then the DWR doesn't limit a cap on the southern unit tags. How is this going to stop the same amount of pressure(people) wanting to hunt the southern unit the opening week??
Not making any sense to me.
It sounds like the DWR is setting itself up for another disaster.
