Hardscrabble cwmu

Not many good things to say about that CWMU. Beware of the operators and how they run things. I wont say anything else.

+1. My experience with this operator is that he is a first class a**hole, and have heard the same thing from others that have dealt with him. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

If a certain F.J. is still the operator than I too concur to be aware.

Now with that said, you have the tag and may as well make the best of it.

I would make sure you KNOW the cwmu rules. The law is on your side...if you know it.

I would make sure you, on your own efforts, KNOW exactly where the open boundries are. DO NOT take the operators word for it. This is speaking from first hand experience.

I'm sure you won't be given the chance to scout from the bottom. You may want to consider at least looking the country over from the public top.

Info, info, info. Get as much as you can and make this a good hunt.

See if you can hunt sept 1st or Nov, the rest of the dates suck. I guided up there a while back and we hunted during the gen deer hunt and it was poor.

I have seen many references (made by your other guys) about cwmu(s). I have no idea how it works or what an operator is. If you don't mind, please educate me on them.....do you draw tags? Are they public? What is an operator? There are probably more details about which I know so little that I don't even know the questions.

Please?

Within the shadows, go quietly.

A CWMU is a Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit here in Utah. It is a limited entry tag on private land where land managers have the right to designate specific areas and times for individuals to hunt (public tag). There is a minimum limit of time that a manager must allow a hunter to participate in. In exchange for allow a public hunter to hunt private property the managers are alotted approximately 5 private tags that they can pay to high paying clients.

As far as Hardscrabble goes they are currently red flagged and close to losing their CWMU because of their poor management. Public tag holders have very low satisfaction for that unit because of the large amount of restrictions placed upon them by the cwmu manager. I would recomend using the DNR to mediate a specific alotment of time to both scout and hunt the property. What a waste of bonus points....

Thanks everyone for the input. I have hunted the public side of this unit for a long time and have turned up some great bucks so I am hoping I will be able to find a shooter during my hunt. I have studied the rules when it comes to cwmu's and am planning on making the most of this tag. I will let everyone know how the hunt turns out.

I had one of the Moose tags last year. Also heard a few horror stories before I hunted it. The operator treated me good, pointed me in the direction to look for my Moose and things worked out great. My moose on the wall reminds me everyday how fun it was. Enjoy the hunt

I also considered this tag a few years ago. I spoke with the operater prior to the drawing. He made comments of using a horse, but said an atv would get me to most places. He referred to elk hunters using hosres with better success.
I ended up hunting a different CWMU. He seemed like an upfront guy to me over the phone, but then again I may have seen different after hunting the place. All in all I have nothing bad to say.

GOOD LUCK! And keep us informed on how it goes.

I will be using horses so that should help but I am an avid hiker as well. I am really just wanting to find a mature buck "numbers don't matter on this one". I really want to thank everyone for their opinions and input. Thats what makes this site so great!
