I've been looking for a new place to take my game other than Cley myers, not that I don't like the place it just seems they are a little slow and I/m not 100% sure the meat you get back is from the actual animal you brought in. Thanks

Utahn- I've been taking mine to Hunsaker's in West Valley. I've been a customer of his for quite a while, seen his entire facility (it's literally a mom and pop place); his equipment is spotless and he gets the meat done on time every time. What I appreciate most is that he'll cut and wrap exactly the amount you want, which in my case is for two people. Now I know that this takes quite a bit more time, but costs me no more and they do it well-I'm still eating 3 year old antelope and elk with no freezer burn.

My 2 cents, for what it's worth in today's economy! :)

Im gonna go with Predator on this one. Hunsakers is the best Ive ever found. They do and excellent job and the price is fair. The turnaround is quick and like he said, they will package it how you want( 2 people, 4 people, etc.). They are located at approx. 6200 West 3500 SOuth.....

Its not SLC but springville meats in springville did a good job for me last year, basic cut and wrap and 10lbs of sausage for $60.Its behind Allens supermarket on main

The last time i went to hunsakers i got raped.
There's a guy in West Valley that runs out of his house. It costs like $50 for deer, i'm not sure for elk. You don't get like jerky or sausage ect. I prefer to make those myself anyway.

My brother in law had a bad experience with Hunsakers as well seems like every other package of elk meat that we were given had elk hair on it. Almost like it was never rinsed off before being wrapped. Not all of it was bad but enough was that he wont go back.

Maybe if your brother in law took care of his meat the butcher wouldn't leave hair in it. Like a friend of mine says-bring ##### in, take ##### home.

Its the butchers responsibilty to make sure the meat is clean before they wrap it. If they are not cleaning the meat before they cut it up then who knows what else you might get.

That's the biggest load of bunk I ever heard. Be resposible and clean your game before you bring it in. Hunting doesn't end with the kill. If you bring in clean meat and it comes out dirty you can complain, otherwise be ready to eat hair.

I worked for 7 years as a butcher in Prince George BC. It was always the guys who took the worst care of their meat who complained the most. The butcher is responsible to keep a clean and sanitary shop and to wipe down his equipment between critters. We used to save the worst for the end of the day so we didn't infect everybody else's meat. If it was really bad( and you wouldn't believe some of the stuff guys bring in) we'd hang it in the blast freezer and then run it through the band saw without cleaning it at all. We lost customers because of this, but they were the customers no one really wants anyway. The term slob hunter comes to mind.

For the guys who took care of their meat we would pick, scrape and wipe any excess hair or leaves or dirt off before wrapping. You can't rinse hair off meat, it just won't work.

Who says my brother inlaw didnt take care of his meat? That elk was boned out and clean when it was delivered.

Like I said before, if you take care of your meat, then you can complain about the butcher.

don't know about utah but a place down here in AZ does a great job. (not that you'd want to dirve down here) but even if you take it in with hair on it no (i repeat) no hair comes with the meat. They do a great job.

My recomendation is that you all take care of your own
wild game. contact a butcher shop and hang your skinned
deer or elk for 2-3 weeks, it will give you the most tender
and best tasting meat. Some shops may not recomend that you hang it for that long, but I have a walk in cooler and all of my
meat hangs for 21 days and then I cut it up myself. I give a
package of steak to all the ranchers that are nice enough to let
me hunt on thair land and the always comment that it's the
best wild meat that they have had, It takes some time, but the results are far better than any commercial shop will ever be able
to produce. Remember a commercial shop is in it for the $$$, the more they do the more they make. Besides, how do you know that
your getting back what you take in. My .02.
