LAST EDITED ON Oct-31-13 AT 01:02PM (MST)[p]Figured Halloween was a good time to post this freak. This animal was killed in the 1930's near Kamas on the deer hunt. The hunter thought is was a deer/elk mix. It has a mule deer frame and the mass and brow tines of an elk. This picture is on my desk with a shed from a solid 150" mule deer in the background. I've never seen anything like it. the skull plate is cracked so it won't make the Mule Delk books. I don't even know how to score it.....

I can't let this go too long :) ........this is actually a barasingha rack from a Victorian English estate. I picked them up for our den....at my wife's request.

Happy Halloween........

I think maybe it needs a new skull plate for display... Or, even better, it should be mounted on a deer head... That'd be unreal...

Thanks for sharing something no one else has probably ever encountered... That's truly rare..!! :)

LAST EDITED ON Oct-31-13 AT 02:13PM (MST)[p]What a confusing and cool set of antlers!! My guess is a very odd bull elk. The base of the antlers at the pedicle are too much like an elk.

Just looking at the rack, you had me going there...

Pretty neat!

You had me guessing WTH, too. I'd never heard of or seen a barasingha, or swamp deer. This looks to be a respectable barasingha rack, true?

>Antler color is elk too.
>So weird

Anyone else laugh at this comment? Antler color is elk???? WTH? Antler color is dependent on different things like types of rubs, dirt color, exposure to sun etc.

While it is cool all I see is a cool buck with some funky brow tines...

I really did find a DELK this summer. I wanted it real bad but then it disappeared. After talking to a few hunters that heard about someone seeing a big buck with a drop tine in one of the nearby canyons, I may know where he may have gone. I hope he survived the hunts.
Here's some video of it with a real nice 3x4.
