Been living in CO for over 19 yrs. My son turned 12 this year so I enrolled him in the Hunter's Ed class which he passed. I put us in for the draw this year and unfortunately he did not draw, but with points I was able to draw a buck tag and a cow tag for unit 49 second season. I'll be taking him out with me and would appreciate any info anyone would be willing to share on the unit. Not looking for your sweet spots, just looking for advice or strategies. Thanks in advance for any info your willing to share. Can't wait to hunt with my boy!!!

I have spent a fair amount of time archery hunting Unit 49. This year, I cashed in points and will be muzzleloader hunting 49 for a bull. This should be a great hunt for you, with a high probability of success. Make sure you get in good shape. It is a steep unit.
If it were me, I would spend some time off of hwy 91between Leadville and the Climax mine, and around Ski Cooper off hwy 24. There are plenty of deer in the area, and you should be able to find a cow. Again, make sure you are ready to hike some fairly steep terrain. Good luck!
