I am hunting a unit that has a drop off of about 600 ft to a lower area. How much snow will it take to push the elk down? The forcast says snow, just wondering what you guys/gals think?

I have been thinking about the same thing. But I'm pretty sure it's going to take more than what we are supposed to get this week at least. What area are you in?

I agree with Jeremy. Seems to me like it usually takes a really good storm or two to get the elk moving. I sure wish I had a tag this year.

Been a long time since I've hunted elk in the snow. For those with late unit 1 tags, hopefully we get enough to push some elk off of Baldy!

Good luck!

Man, I have been watching the weather channel like it was going out of style. It doesn't look like there will be enough snow to give a bull a slight chill, even if it does drop some snow, it will get melted by the rains in the day. Lets all fold our hands and pray. Please Lord give me a ton of snow, or hold off on the rain until after elk season.

I am fixin on leavin tomorrow. Good luck to all of you, but I wouldn't hold your breath on enough snow fallin to push the criters around. If we get some good winds it might drive them into the canyons early, otherwise stick to your plans and hunt em high, then hang em higher.............

i see deer move down at about 7" here but the elk it take about 18 to 24 before i see them move some times even more if its going to melt they will wait it out around here it will snow 24" and the wind comes up it will be gone in a week

Well I guess we will know soon, I am leaving tomorrow for the Unit 1 Elk Hunt in Arizona. I hope to have pictures of a nice bull to post in about a week.

300,
Best of luck, I'm also headed out tomorrow to Unit 10. Can't beleive its finaly here, scary to think it may be another 7-8 years before I get hunt elk in Arizona agin.

Right now (noon on Wed)at 7000' in Flagstaff, it's just raining. Snow accumulations are just forecasted for the top of the peaks, and not much at that. I think we'll just have muddy conditions-bad for getting around and good for seeing fresh tracks. Good luck on your hunt.
