Cache Elk

I was just wondering if anyone has hunted the cache area for spike. Also were you successful and did you see alot of elk. I was looking at going hunting up there this year for spike and wanted to know some areas to look.

well it all depends on the year, and last years calfs. last year went up behind hardware ranch and saw 1 big 6 point opening morning crossing the road to get into hardware he was a late one there was approx. 300 head in there the day before elk hunting opened. we only saw 1 spike the hole damn hunt and he ran across the road so damn fast though that he was gonna put someones eye out!

I haven't hunted over there for several years but we used to hunt in the general any bull area that border's the spike only area and in the middle of the day sometimes we would just cruise down to hardware and look at the elk in the ranch and dream, but be prepared for alot of hunter's and pressure I've seen alot of 3 point raghorns and fork bulls, but never a spike.

BH20 in regards to your question about cache spike elk I will also tell you it is a war zone I have quit spike hunting and gone any bull for two years and not had near as much pressure as i have encountered on the Cache unit. It literally is a joke if you do go good luck there are some areas away from hardware ranch that could produce for ya. Try Temple fork area particularly chicken creek.
