This monster blacktail was harvested by my grandad in 1943 and has been the prize of the family ever since. I was fortunate enough to have it remounted for him not to long before he passed away at 86 years old and I know he was still so very proud of this great buck.I was also honored that he wanted me to have this monarch to pass along to my kids and to enjoy for so many years after he was gone. Thanks grandad!!!

Anyone out there have some great old blacktail trophies post them so we can enjoy.

JDR,
Was it from the west side of Interstate 5 or the east side like up in the Modoc areas?
Reason I ask is that B&C considers everything east of 5 as Mule Deer.
I made a post earlier this year showing a big non-typical that a friend of my Granddad's had taken quite some time ago and my cousin said it was a blacktail and I tried to explain to him but I realized that I was getting no where so just dropped the question.
That is a very nice buck and the remount looks good. How wide is it?

K he is 30",was 33" when harvested and unfortunately he is an east of I-5 buck but not from the muley region. He was taken on the western slope of the sierras.

Nice looking deer! thanks for sharing the photo. My friend just found a bunch of horns in his granpas shed..I'll try to post them on here soon. B_B

well since I'm from the N, western slope, in the cross zone. The buck in the old photo sure looks like a muley, but the new mount look pure Blacky.

Manny, this buck was killed east of Redbluff Ca back in 43 and most of the deer in that area are either blacktail purebred or crosses, so he is probably a cross but who cares cause he is a pig no matter what and granpa killed him making him my most prized mount.I make no bones about the fact that he says he is a blacktail so I say he is a blacktail. Gramps says there was no muley markings what so ever and I tend to believe him since he had a wll of mounts that I wish I could have.He was the deer hunting hero of our family and this was his prize mount.

I'm huntin C - zone and I'm still looking for a buck like that, cross or not it don't matter to me.

you gran-pappy's buck's face just looks more muley then blacky to me...still your right thats an awesom buck and there are still some monster left out there just not as many..

east of redbluff, whats that refuge area up near..Tehama wildlife area...is that where you talking about..?..thats G-1 the late season (now called)........
