With the special hunt permit appilication just around the corner I was wondering if anyone would share what units they have drawn in the last couple of years and how many points they had when they drew it.

I have not drawn a tag in eight years(other than AHE) and the last ones that I wasted my points on were antlerless that shre was stupid.

quilemine bull tag first year of point system
quilemene sheep tag in 99 3 points
alkli buck tag in 2001 5 points
selkirks moose tag 2001 5 points
peaches ridge bull tag rifle 2003 12 points(extra points poacher)
peaches ridge bull tag archery 2004 0 points

hay time2hunt can I put in for a party hunt with you? JK good job on the poacher points. How was the moose hunt?

Only thing left is that darn goat tag I've been baby sitting one for about 3 years now he is going to die of old age.Moose hunt was fun tell he hit the ground then the real work starts,He went 47 inches but only single brow tine he scored around 135.My buddy has him at the sportsman in silverdale.

Just been putting in for moose, goat and sheep. Got max points and a few extra for tuning in a couple of poachers. Havent drawn yet. I am sitting on a tribal goat tag for anywhere in the Cascades for nailing a poacher/arson/vandal on tribal land. It is good for as long as I want it. I am thinking about saving it for my daughter and continue to try and draw one for myself.

I got points for turning in poachers this year too who says crime doent pay.

I need to find some poachers and get some extra points.

Drew a Mission mule deer tag in 2003 with max points at the time(7 or 8 I believe)
Drew a Buckrun tag in 2005 with one point. Sitting on a ton of others for sheep, goat, moose and elk, maybe this year I'll pull one of them.

Drew a Margaret Unit cow tag in 2004 with nine points and second choice. Drew a Minot Peak doe tag in 2002 with 0 points.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-21-06 AT 12:52PM (MST)[p]I had the desert unit in 2000 with 6 pts, I got the any bull tag for goose prairie in 2002 w/7 pts, I got the Manson unit mule deer in 2003 with 2 pts, I got another any bull tag for goose prairie in 2005 with 2 pts. Thats pretty much it since 2000...I kind of feel robbed because I didnt draw anything in 2001, or 2004...must have been the el nino... :D

1999 goat 6pts
2001 Pearrigin late buck 4pts
2004 East Ok 2pts

I got max for sheep, 8 for moose, and 8 for elk.

Sharpstick: What unit did you draw for the AHE?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-21-06 AT 07:44PM (MST)[p]Pearrigin late buck 4pts what are the odds??????????

I have drawn green Mt, JBHA, 2X toledo.

I haven't drawn anything, but I'm only 17 and have max points in everything but elk. One of these years I'm gonna draw something. In 2004 my dad drew the Desert unit with I think 8 points.

>Pearrigin late buck 4pts what are
>the odds??????????

Not good! Really, it's impossible to figure out odds of drawing, because you would have to know how many points each applicant had, and even if you did know that, with there being the option of putting 4 choices down on an application, that confuses things even more. All you can do is compare the number of applications from the previous year versus the number of permits available with other permits. Pearrygin will have around 3000 applications for 20 permits, which would be odds of 1 in 150. Looking at another unit, like Swakane, with around 2500 applications (just a guess) and 40 permits, odds would be 1 in 62. That's how I do it, but like I said, this doesn't give your true odds of drawing, just odds relative to other permits. Hope that makes sense.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-26-06 AT 08:17AM (MST)[p]Ok I had 14 points last year and did not draw a late mule deer last year. I Have 15 this year and permits are up in some of the units. the reason I have 14 is because i caught a poacher shooting a whitetail doe out of season. Anyway I can't understand how and why this state works the way it does. We need some changes in our game dept.

Dugan, having 14 points is not a guarantee that you will draw a permit (as you found out,) and it shouldn't be, IMO. Other states do have what is called "preference points" and with that system the applicants with the most points will get drawn automatically. The problem with that type of system is those with less than max points have no chance at all. I like the way our draw works and don't think it needs to be changed. Let me ask you this...what permit(s) did you apply for last year? Maybe you need to apply for 1 or 2 that aren't quite as hard to draw, if you really want a late mule deer hunt. For example, if you only put down Desert and Pearrygin, then that would explain why you didn't draw. Odds are around 1 in 300 to 1 in 400 for those, and many people have 9 or 10 points, so that makes the odds even worse.

I agree with Bob, I would much rather have a chance, even a small chance with zero to one point than no chance at all with a preference point system. I have been extremely lucky in the draw over the past 6 yrs, and they have not been for easy to draw for area's. If you choose to only put the best hunts on one choice then you expect to wait...but the pay off is great as well...14-15 yrs is a little extreme but im sure you are not alone...good luck and remember...every dog has his day!

I guess i did not look at it that way but it is still frustraiting. I have been putting in for everything for way too long too not draw anything at all. I feel my day coming soon. good luck to you guys as well.
