my step brothers boy put in for a unit 28 youth tag,can anybody tell me a good place to get them started, just looking for a decent bull doesn,t have to be trophy class, i think he would be happy just to fill the tag.any help would be appreciated, not looking for any body,s secret spots.

With the hunt going to Nov. 30, I would think about trying up Beaver Ck or Trail Ck off of Panther Ck, later would be better. Another possiblity would be up Moose Ck off of the mainstem Salmon. Good Luck with it and hope for a bit of weather...

Howdy,
I have been hunting unit 28 for 5 years. Last year passed up a nice 5x5 bull but saw nothing bigger. I see elk every year but i'm picky about big bulls. I would not reccomend Beaver/Trail creek, those areas along Panther creek are "outfitter" central, staging areas, not to mention lots of other hunters. I would reccomend the area around the "Yellow Jacket" mine. "Duck Peak" to the southwest of yellow jacket has good elk numbers and less hunting pressure. Be prepared to hike, it's worth it!
