Newbie wanting to know if unit 10 is the best in Colorado? How long before you get drawn? Friend told me I should apply since I am only 33 years old.

ITS ONE OF THE BEST!!!

NOT NECCESARILY THE BEST!!!

TAKES A LOTTA POINTS!!!

LETS SEE!!!

THE TIME YOU'RE 53 YOU MIGHT DRAW!!!

JUST KIDDIN!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THAT DON'T HAVE THE ODDS BUT I'M KINDA IN THE SAME BOAT & IT AIN'T GOOD!!! :D :D :D :D

Unit 2 is the best unit colorado in my oppion and then it's a tie between 10 and 201. But your gonna really actually be more than 50 when you draw because my dad drew 2 with 15 points as a resident and he did the math with the draw rasing a point a year with me at the current age of 14 I wouldn't draw the tag till I'm in my mid 50's so I really would try to put in for it unless you are willing to wait along time. Unit 10 took 13-14 points to draw with a rifle and one of our friends drew it for archery with 12.

Bess said "just kiddin" because you'll never draw by 53 if you haven't started building points a few years ago.

Unit 10 is a good unit, not necessarily the best unit. But if you're a non-resident and don't have 12-14 points already, don't be dreaming about one of the "best" units. It's not worth the wait.

Non resident or resident, under the current system you will never draw, to many people in front of you for the few tags
given.I have 15 non resident points and it could take me another 5-10 years for a muzzleloader or rifle tag in 2 or 10, archery I could draw withen the next year or two.

lets see you wait 15 years, and by that time theres a booner in another unit with 5 years wait killed by joe bloe Blah Blah...

insain thats all, a unit can change by that time drought or fire what ever... insain 15 years....

I'd like to see the preference point system change to that which the DOW uses for Moose. A weighted draw. THAT would make people who have lots of points really Whine but in the end it would be fairer.

I actually like Colo's deer and elk pref pt system just as it is. There are only a hand full of elk units in the entire state that you may or may not draw in your lifetime and the majority of deer and elk units can be drawn in 0 to 5 years. If you don't select the primo hunting season dates these same units are even easier to draw.

The thing Colo should consider is controlling hunter numbers and creating more "premier" units. This would distribute some of the high pref pt applicants and offer a better quality hunt. I have never enjoyed hunting units with unlimited elk tags where spikes to raghorns are the norm and it is nearly impossible to glass a hillside without seeing orange! Look at how popular the Gunnison deer units have become since they limited deer tags!

As far as I'm concerned the pt banking system should be trashed! In my eyes it "MAY" prevent some of the pref pt "creep" in tough draw units but from what I've seen it has caused "creep" in the units that take only a few pref pts to draw!

With 0 points, I wouldn't set my sights on any one particular unit/area. Gain a few points and research different areas throughout the years.

I agree with Jims, I would like to see CO bring a few more units into the "premier" category. Limited tags=less hunters=increased chance at older age class animals=quality hunting experience.

Take a look at some of the bulls coming out of surrounding states (Utah).

When I started applying for Colorado elk 15 yrs ago, I figured in 3-4 years I would be able to draw a great tag. Well I'm still waiting on CO, but I can wait because in the meantime I have drawn three AZ elk tags, one early rifle and two archery. I just got back from the AZ strip, killed a 200# plus muledeer and I have the MT Elk Supertag in my pocket and am heading to Gardiner this January. I recommend you apply in as many states as possible.

If you are a NR with 0 points you will not live long enough to pull a unit 10 gun tag, bow MAYBE, but it will take at least 30 years. Way to many guys ahead of you, and you are not starting out nearly young enough to outlive many applicants (your only chance).

The new 20% NR allocation took your 30 year wait to 50 years! There are hunreds, if not thousands, waiting for that tag.
