App ? in Utah

Was wondering if anyone can help me out.I have 7 bonus points for elk in Utah as a non-resident.My friend in Utah has the same points as a resident. It says in the proc that we can apply together. My ? is,how does this effect mine and his odds. How does this work?I know that here in Nevada you can also put in for deer with a non-resident,but the way I understand is that it lowers the residents odds because if your draw number comes up and there is no remaining non-resident quota left then you get kicked out as well, and there are not that many non-resident tags,so this would lower the odds for me.If it is the same in Utah,I do not want to ruin his chances although I will have to look because maybe the areas we are looking at have better non-res odds which could make my chances harder depending on how they do it.We will probably put in together anyway because it would be awesome to both have a tag.Can anybody tell me how this works? Thanks.

You may want to talk to the DWR on that one, I don't think that you can put in for a resident tag as a non-resident, but not sure. I would call the division for clairification.
Just my 2 cents, GOOD LUCK!

i am just throwing this out there but i dont think seven points is going to get you a tag any time soon

I would GUESS you both would be in the NR draw pool, which is long odds, also make sure there are enough tags you actually have a chance, a group NR app in Utah even with only 2 guys is tough odds. Some tags got to SPFW and half go to max point holders (which you are not). That means if there are 3 NR tags you guys probably cannot draw - impossible, reason is 1 tag may go to SPFW, one to max pnt holders, leaving only 1 tag. Be careful where you apply and with only 7 points it will be tough.

If a res and nonres put in together, they must both draw from the seperate pools with the same random number. If one draws and the other doesn't, both are rejected. It only hurts your odds. Don't put in together unless you don't want to hunt without your buddy.

1highpeak,I am going to clarify with them for sure. You can put in together though.JLTD,thanks for your comment.I have only been looking at odds very closely every year,so trust me,I know what my chances are with 7 points. Thanks anyways.UGAhunter, thank you for the best info.If that is how it works then I am definately not going that route.I know you can put in together, how the max points works and all that.I was just wondering how the draw works when a non-res and resident put in together.Nevada does it the same way UGAhunter says, but I just wasn't sure if anybody knew.I will be calling and finding out for sure though. Thanks again for the info UGAhunter.
