Hello All-

I am a frequent reader here on MM and know there is whole lot of experienced elk hunters on this site. I would like to hear some of your opinions and knowledge on hunting Bulls late in the season. I have drawn a late tag and know that things will be a little different then early October......

I appreciate in advance any feedback...

IMHO Lots of glassing at first and last light, find one you want and get in on him at the next opportunity. Unless weather triggers a migration, undisturbed bulls should stay in a pretty small area at that time of year recoving from the rut before winter comes on full force. So you should be looking for places where bulls are undisturbed, have something to eat, and decent cover.

Bulls in unit 15 don't have any reason to migrate. They don't know what a real winter is, which is part of why some of them live so long. I'd be looking in some out of the way spots in that unit, out of the way as in overlooked. There aren't too many remote spots in 15, at least on the west side that I'm familiar with. There are spots where you should be able to find bulls late, but you probably need to look in spots that others don't spend much time on. That is how I'd hunt that unit late. Spend a lot of time glassing and you should find bulls in spots you might not expect.

Thanks guys for responses and info I really appreaciate your opinions....I plan on buying some 15x50 vortex binos in the very near future along with the high country tripod, I figured I will get plenty of use out of them now through November....

Thanks again-

I'd expect the bulls to be seperated from the cows at that point. Look for bachelor groups, maybe even loners in the big bulls.

Like mentioned, they'll be recovering from the rut, but don't really have too much to worry about as far as migration is concerned.

Well for us its kinda like trying to find them for video since we dont have a real late hunt but I would try to figure out where bulls have wintered in the past, I know the elk around here like to winter in the same general area. Its a good place to start, good luck
