This is my 2003 Utah buck. Taken on a CWMU near Scofield Res. I thought I was shooting at the 6x7 as they ran through the thick brush, at 212 yds. on the last day of the hunt.

What do you expect from a wanna-be turtle hunter?:) I was still thrilled. My best buck to date.

Looks like a good deer to me! Which CWMU did you hunt up there (looking to get on Soldier Summit)? Did you draw the tag in the drawing? What was the operator like, any recomendations for the boys out here?

cowslayer,

If I remember right it was the Scofield CWMU. I didn't draw the tag. I did it the "easy" way by combining my income tax return with my vacation check and the wife's Christmas money. There by raising Utah's GNP by 3% that year:) Jed Wayment of J&J Outfitters was who I went through. Great ranch, as the land owner cut way back on the amount of grazing on the property. The place was loaded with deer and elk, and should only get better. A major portion of the ranch borders public land and those animals should benefit as well.

264Magnum,

Deer hunting does diminish when you think of hunting an animal that wants YOU as much as you want it!:)

Who is the middle-aged dude holding the horns ?
obviously not that young whipper-snapper/trouble-maker known as eelgrass.
Also it sure is sporting a huge body, did you get the horns mounted in the velvet ?

B_F_E,

I'm afraid that's me alright. I'm middle aged but my wife says I'll never grow up. I hope she's right!:)

I didn't have the antlers mounted with the velvet. Some of it was already loose so I stripped off the rest. I need to have them stained as they are almost pure white now.

The ironic part to my hunt was that 2 days earlier I passed on an honest 30" wide 3x3, standing broadside about 100 yds. I wanted the 6x7 we knew was around. We saw him twice but it was not to be.

We didn't weigh the buck but I wish we had.

Steve
