Well, the boys just got back from a week on the Manti and here is the report. Left to right: Brian Perry came to join us from California, Brian (Gonzo), Me (UTodd), Varoz and Kelly (GoaT).

I left for a few nights to return to work in SLC. Friday night I returned and while waiting for the dudes to return, I glassed some elk in the bowl below camp. I drove down to get a closer look and got between two groups of elk and was able to call this little guy in for a 20 yard shot. I was wearing the fall line of redneck camo- shorts and a grey t-shirt. Thanks guys for helping with the pack out. We named the bull Herme because we did not know he was a bull until we got a good look at those amazing antlers. They almost broke the skin. Will have to wait for the drying period to get an official score.

Saturday continued the fun when Brian P got serious on his last full day to hunt. He located his buck around 12:30 and did not get into shooting position until 5:15pm when he was just 45 yards from the buck. BP was waiting for the buck to stand up from his bed when he heard some noises from the bushes just behind him. A mountain lion disguised as a sheep almost got whacked at 15 feet ? but BP held off on the kill only to have the sheep run right at the bedded buck. Thinking the long stalk was all for naught- Brian looked up only to see the buck broadside 20 yards further out. Brian sent a Wac?em through the buck and saw the buck kick both back legs out and thought it was a perfect lung shot.

BP came and got Gonzo and me and we formulated a plan to retrieve the buck. The buck did not leave one clue other than an arrow covered in green stuff and a little blood. I had the thought to go around the basin and approach the area from the bottom. I was fortunate enough to locate the buck about 600 yards from the shot. He was still on the hoof but struggling and looked to be center punched. We put him to bed for the night. Next morning, GoaT (Hoound Dog) was able to glass this buck in his death bed and the celebration was on.

This is BP?s first archery mule deer and one heck of a unique buck. We had a blast and thought you might enjoy hearing about the trip.

Looks like you boys had a great time. Thats what its all about.

Slam- was that an injury in the Spring that would have caused that to grow that way? He would have been a stud if he matched. He is pretty unique the way he is though.

Nice job. Thats a pretty unique buck. I would have him mounted.
That elk is considered a 5-6year old on the Manti.

Great job guys! I know that sign well, lol. I live close to it and scouted many a day up there this summer. There's no better meat on this earth than a fine calf elk. Awesome buck. Congrats!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-10-08 AT 05:21PM (MST)[p]I've heard of people looking like their pets, but Todd, you could definitely be Herme's twin...yep, no question. With the "tuck", in appearance too! Should we post the photo? Ha, Ha - LOL

Definitely Herme will score high in the single digits. That was an awesome weekend we had though. BP finally notched the golden ticket this year on an outstanding buck. I am glad he is mounting him.

Next time lets get one closer to the road will ya?... That 100 yard hike out with Herme was brutal. :)

Listen here Bing- I am not the one named GoatT. So you better just 'tuck' your tail and run before we have a little camp "accident" on the muzz hunt.

Nice Animals guys and most of all Looks like you all had a great time.

Congrats to All

Bull

Cowslayer....you would have shot the mini-bull as well if you could have tasted those bacon wrapped back-straps we had on Saturday night in camp. YUMMMMY!

Todd,

Nice to see that you outdid GoaT's bull from last year. Way to set new standards!

Redline...you are right, GoatT's bull was big and stinky and hard to carry. Mine was young and tender and fit nicely into one frame pack. My bull is going to look a little goofier on the wall though.

How do you sleep with yourselves after butchering an infant with milk on its lips? Here's a question that needs answering. Are you a utard?

Marsha..Marsha...Marsha....How did I sleep after killing that elk? On a Cabela's cot and pad, I think my sleeping bag is made by Teton but I could be wrong, good sized pillow and a little bit of diet coke and I was out. Slept really well if I recall. Thanks for asking. As far as the utard question, I guess I need to understand what you consider a utard. Or better yet- maybe I just shouldn't give a rats ass.
