was wondering if anybody could tell me a good spot along the Wasatch Extended Archery Unit to take my 14 year old son for Elk, we are not picky, cows are fine. Not looking for any trophies, just an opportunity for my son to harvest his first elk.

go up lambs cayon to the gate. park hike to east. half way up the hill is some quakes and a wallow. check it look ata the trees for mud splater. if is getting hit its at night. up on top is alot of tall scrub oak. then another spot is go up to the summit of parleys and get off. turn right fallow that road for about a mile it to the first big cayon on the right. hike down in there around 4 to 5 and start cow calling. ahve fun they are both good spots. ken

Good luck on that, I really hope you can find some. Many people that know the elk up there can't keep tabs on them. I have had quite a few of encounters but I have killed 1 elk in 4 years on the front and needless to say I spent more time hunting them then deer and I have killed 4 deer in 4 years. you just need to hit the canyons from big cotton wood to east canyon and hope you have a lot of luck on your side. I have gone weeks without seeing a track to getting into them every time I go up. This is about the only info you will get on the area since the elk on the front are quite the commodity. Sorry I am not more help but I have put some time in to the elk and hate to give away such info.

Hope you don't think I am an a-hole,

LAST EDITED ON Sep-24-08 AT 06:59PM (MST)[p]That trail has been posted so many times on MM you need to reserve a parking place in advance.

Trevriv - keep in mind the Wasatch is a very hard hunt for a kid with very low odds - good luck.
