Every year i find and hear about guys who draw LE tags and end up not bein able to hunt them for reasons that are easily avoidable. It blows my mind how you cant find a week off of work, or the money to hunt this nearly once in lifetime tag. Personally if this were the case for me rather than sacrifice my hunt opportunity id turn the tag back in and wait till i was able to make the most of it or find away around the prob. Kinda tee's me off to hear about this cause i know that guy is holdin a tag id die for, and doesnt realize its value or maybe doesnt even care. What would you do if you knew that your hunt would be hindered by financial or time issues?? Also knowing that this is a 10+ year wait to get another one?

This year my Dad and I both got to hunt and take nice bulls because someone did turn in a tag. I can't see sitting on one if you absolutely can't use it. I don't know who turned them in but they made our dreams come true. We looked at this year as a gift. It will likely be Dads last hunt and he was able to go out with a bang.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-29-08 AT 01:55PM (MST)[p]I don't know what tags these guys are waitin for, but after the waiting period, starting back out at zero points, you dang near better be a teenager now or damn lucky because youll be waitin a lot longer than 10 years.

Thats what i meant buck its pretty much a once in lifetime deal so why would you not take full advantage of it??

When I was in college 4 or 5 years ago I had a kid in my class that drew a Bookcliffs archery elk tag with 1 point and hunted for 1 day. Said there were screaming bulls everywhere, and he was excited to draw another tag when he had some more time to hunt.....I about fell off of my chair.

Some states don't allow for the tag to be returned and stuff happens. It is life. People are very fortunate to be able to turn their tags back in Utah no questions asked, eat the tag fee and get points restored. This is the exception not the rule.

Well Berryblaster,
Back in 2000 I drew a tag for a very good moose unitand was planning om harvesting it with a bow. However, I was in a bad accidentin which I ended up with several broken ribsa punchured, colapsed lung, and a torn Labrum in my right shoulder. I had only a month to figure out what I was to do with the permit. I eventually was able to turn the permit back in and ho[pe that some other hunter would be happy with it; I'm Sure that they were. I was able to Draw the fallowing year and was able to harvest a really nice bull with my bow. My moose is now on display at Utah Archery Center. Thank goodness that I was able to realocate my permit rather than waste it.

Hmmmmm. dont know what just happened here. Anyway, I eventually was able to turn the permit back in and hope that another hunterwould be happy with it. I was able to draw it the very next year (2001)and was able to harvest a really nice bull moose with my bow. My moose is now on display at Utah Archery Center. Thank goodness that I was able to realocate my permit rather than waste it.

I would definately find a way around the problem and if it was a health issue or something i couldn't get around i'd turn it in. It really doesn't bother me when people waste tags or only hunt a day or two because that bull that they would have taken will be even bigger next year for someone that really cares about it.

I know if anything comes up when I finally draw Pahvant or San Juan the tag will win PERIOD!!...WARNING TO ALL FUTURE EX WIVES, JOBS, BOSSES, ECT...ELK WILL WIN THE BATTLE!! I'm goin huntin!!

Mean while - - - -- - - I too would take a loan out under the right circumstances there are some permits out there that are definetley OIL that are Limited entry and it would be a big enough priority to me to take a loan out------- under the right circumstances-of course just so that I could hunt that unit the right way, I know of some other people who just think ah whatever its just a stupid deer tag or an elk tag wow some people ha? If I had some of those tags and were unable to hunt at all I think I would be in such deep depression the rest of my life I would have to be on suicide watch!!! j/k
