Ski Doo xp 800. A lot more winter fun than ice fishing.

Sorry, not much help for your question. I snowmobile up at strawberry a lot and every time I wonder why in the world anyone would want to sit and ice fish when they could be out tearin it up on a snowmobile????

Good luck with your quest. But seriously you should just buy a snowmobile. :)

Bessy,

More horse the better! When you do buy one, run premium gas and mix SEA FOAM with it. And carry extra spark plugs!

I had trouble at first with my auger, but after using sea foam and changing out the plug it runs great.

I bought an 'Eskimo' at Sportman's. It is worth every penny!!!

I am heading to the Gorge next weekend to fish for those ugly
burbot. You are welcome to come along!

Bessy,I to bought the Eskimo at Sportsman 3 yrs.ago Have had no problems with it.(ROD)

FUNNY YOU SHOULD MENTION A CHAINSAW grizzly!!!

LMAO!!!

I ALMOST GOT IN A BIND WHEN I USE TO CUT HOLES WITH MY CHAIN SAW!!!

ME & MY FRIENDS DECIDED AGAINST CUTTING SEVERAL HOLES WITH THE CHAINSAW!!!

WE DECIDED TO CUT A TROUGH ABOUT 15' LONG SO EVERYBODY COULD FISH OUT OF THE SAME HOLE!!!

IT WORKED PERTY GOOD!!!

UNTIL THE WARDEN MARCHED OUT ON THE ICE ONE DAY!!!

WE SEEN HIM COMMING & WE TRIED HIDING IT BY PUSHING SNOW IN TO THE TROUGH WITH OUR BOOTS!!!

THOUGHT WE HAD IT HID PERTY GOOD!!!

WELL WHEN THE WARDEN COME UP TO US HE STEPPED OFF IN TO THE TROUGH!!!

SOB!!!

IT WASN'T PERTY FOR A FEW MINUTES!!!

"BESS"!!! IS THAT YOUR CHAINSAW???

YUP,ITS MINE BUT I DIDN'T CUT THE TROUGH,LOL!!!

YOU EVER SEEN A WET LEGGED WARDEN IN JANUARY???

I HAVE!!!

I BETTER GET ME AN AUGER!!!

By far the best ice auger on the market is the Strikemaster lazer mag express.

Dont mess with a 10 inch...go with the 8 inch and the 2 hp motor.

Change your blades once a year, you can exchange blades for about $26 a set if you send in the old ones. New blades are $45 a set, but well worth it.

You can drill through 8-10 inches of ice in a few seconds, I mean A FEW seconds as in less than 10.

Been out a few times this year in Wyoming already and I didnt change blades from last year, but need to. Conservatively I would guess I drilled at least 6-7 hundred holes last year on that set of blades. To catch walleye and perch you need to move a lot and drill lots of holes to find them. Pretty common to drill 50-100 holes a day.

I would never consider any other brand of ice auger.

Heres what they look like:

...and heres why you need an auger that you dont mind drilling lots of holes with:

DO NOT get a 7 or 8" if you are going to be chasing Macs!
I have a 22 year old Magnum III 7", it works great except for the hole being too small. When you start catching lakers in the 20+ pounds they are tough to fit through smaller holes.

I caught a 42" with a 24" girth last year, Auger hole is
7"= 22" circumfrance :-( It was a little tight getting him through. So stick with the 10". If Utah allows it, and you are serious about mac's get a 12".

As for the company??? I never had a new one, just this one I got from my dad. I always seen guys fighting with their eskimos when I lived in MN cause they were crap but that was 10 years ago, they very well could have gotten better.

Less than 12" of ice I prefer a hand auger, faster and lighter.
