Is anyone here putting in for the late whitetail hunts in Arizona?
If so what area and why?
Myself, unit 32, 1st choice, unit 33, 2nd choice.
Only 100 tags per choice. Last year I got permit number 99 out of 100!!!
Hope my luck keeps coming.

Im putting in for 22 and 6a. Got four bonus points, so Im hoping!

I'm putting in for 36C. Have 3 points, drew this tag in 2000. Am hoping to draw. I live in WA, so I won't be able to do any scouting, but I can spend the first 10 days of season, or the last 5 days in the unit. What would you all recommend? Also, my Uncle is moving from WA to Rio Rico, AZ, so I am hoping to fly to Tucson and use his truck for the hunt if drawn.

I am entertaining thoughts about units 21, 32, & 36. I'll probably need a three-sided coin on Tuesday, June 8.

Scott,
I would choose the 10 day period as it would give you more time to find a nice buck and/or be choosy. Granted, the rut starts about the end of Dec., and a few bucks may come out of hiding, but your periods to hunt are not separated by any days. A winter storm could cut into the 5 day hunt leaving fewer days to hunt than if it was during the first 10 days. If you can be flexible, keep an eye on the weather forecasts.
Good luck in the draw.

after all the pictures and stories of the monsters in NM, I have decided to quit hunting AZ and put in for NM......LOL...... Allen Taylor......

Cool Allen. That should leave me a tag in AZ. I'll leave the gate here in NM unlocked for you. :)

nmTaxi,
You were talkin in a previous post about nobody wanting to give up their hunting spots in 24B AZ. I have a picuture for you that you might just like, a nice little buck that I took in that area.
send me an email and I will send you the pic. I will even tell you where I shot him.

First choice 24A, Second choice 24B, Third choice 34B. Then I put in for 32 november hunt and 24B for november.

Now we have to see how lucky we are this year.

This year I drew unit 36B Dec which has been very good to us producing bucking in the 104 class. However, I live in Mammoth and should warn unit 32 hunters that Mercer Ranch is charging a $20 fee per permit holder for entering his privite property and limiting the amount of hunters. He has installed 3 gates which are all locked. I have know them for 30 plus years. The reason stems that people are throwing trash and stealing his well pumps which are not cheap and can not blame him. So, if you plan to hunt there it will be best you call them for permisson and place your name on the list. Good luck

NSanchez,

I use to live in hayden-Kearny area but i was just wondering how that works if you do call him will he give you a key or will he meet you at a special time so he can let you in?I have a couple of friends that drew the 32 tag and went scouting up in mercer's a couple of times before they locked the gate but if you can let me know how that will work it would be appricaited.

Call them, I called yesterday and was barely able to make it on the list, the Oct hunt is all booked up. I totally understand and would like to ask the few who ruined it for all of us how they feel now.

In Ref to Mercer Ranch access you must stop by the main ranch and pay your fee and get a key. But keep in mind that he'll take your name and Lic #. If you do not return the key back then you will not be allowed to return to the ranch. I plan to be there to assist them with what every they need. My Truck will be a Freshly painted Blue 79 Chevy Truck. They are very nice folks so please report any Violations to them.
Respectly

This morning 09/30/05 0900am spoke with Lori Mercer, she said that she has only 4 opening available for the Oct hunt. They are allowing only 25 hunters. If, you plan to hunt there better call ASAP. She allowed me to post here phone 520-487-2021. I'll be up this Saturday looking one of the two bears that I seen. Well, fellow hunters good luck to all you. Be safe and have fun.
