Hello Everyone,
I just moved to NM this summer and am really excited about the oppurtunity to hunt Coues Deer. I have heard there are a few in some of the units in the Southern part of the state and was wondering if anyone had any info. That might point me in the right direction as I prepare to apply in the next couple of months.

Jordan, welcome. Naturally you need to get on NM game and fish website and see what their regulations are, there might be some bow hunts over the counter left for this year. I also would look into Arizona for an over the counter bow tag for the upcoming December - January bow hunt.I think your license costs around 113.50 and the deer tag for non-res is 130.50 so you can hunt this year for coues in AZ for sure for 244.00 dollars. The units in NM you want to research would be 27, 23, 16a & 16b I think. I dont know much about NM so wait till other respond to help you out. I would also buy Duwane Adams book "How to hunt coues deer" . I think its on this website's book store or go to www.coueswhitetail.com and buy it there. Hopefully this info helps you............ Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Hey,
If you get into this coues deer hunting, be careful, you may get hooked! The previous info is good, there may be some left over tags for this Jan. If not, get your app. in next year. Coues deer can be found in almost any unit in the southwest..27, 22, 23, 24, 16, etc. It is just a matter of picking your weapon and the time of year, Sept or Jan for bow, or the fall for muzzy and rifle. Even though they are in these units, they can be tough to find. You will need to spend a lot of time scouting, for sure. Many others will be able to get you more info on different units than I can. Where are you located? Also, check out coueswhitetail.com for more great info on these deer.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, weapon in one hand, calls in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
