Has anyone built their own traditional bow? I am seriously considering building one and hunting with it in the next couple years..

Has anyone used the kits that you put together.. or even dared build one from scratch? whats your experiences? pros cons of kits and DIY.

Have you hunted with it and was it a good or bad experience.

I have built 4 from trees I cut down. The first was Eastern Red Cedar. The only power tool that ever touched it was the chainsaw.
About 80 hours of work after letting it dry out for 18 months. It was English longbow style, 46#@28". I shot it about 600 times before it broke. I am currently shooting a sinew-backed Osage Orange reflex-deflex selfbow. It has about 100 arrows through it so far. Hopefully it will last longer than the ERC. I have an uncle who builds selfbows also. He has built board bows a couple times but mainly uses staves from trees that he or I cut. Between the two of us, we have used: ERC, black locust, Kentucky coffeetree, Osage Orange, hickory, ash, and probably a few others that I can't remember. It will definitely build patience. There is something special about shooting a bow that you built from a tree.
