New to site and any info would be helpful and much appreciated. I drew the new wasatch east late muzzy deer tag and was wondering if anyone can tell me what quality of deer to expect or pictures of deer taken in years past . I live in Oregon so will only be able to scout for 4-5 days before season. Im in my early 30's and in good shape so I'd love to get in some back country (steep and deep) areas where there is less pressure and people . Any help is appreciated!

This is going to be a good year to have that tag. The hunt will be about as late in the year as it ever will get hopefully for you meaning better rut activity. I can P.M. you some info but you can make this as hard or as easy as you want depends on what your after.. I am curious to know how many point it took for you to pull the tag?

Thanks southslope , a pm would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a good adventure and willing to do whatever it takes to give myself the best chance of seeing mature bucks . Got lucky ( I think) 2 points

Southslope,, If you don't mind, I could use a pointer or 2 also.. I'm familiar with the Red Creek/Tabby mountain area, not much else though.. I'm fit and able to hike my arse off if need be. Thanks in advance...

Thank you

spent the 100 bucks for the chip in the Rino.. pretty impressed with the detail of the maps/boundaries on it.

orhunter,
Congrats on pulling that tag.
Being able to hunt til the 10th of November allows you to find rutting bucks. I'd say rather than getting in deep dark holes, you will want to be mobile, and check on the does in the lower country. Especially if we get any early weather, the big bucks will be headed out of the back country in search of the ladies. Once they get love on their mind they can't think of anything else.
I had a later season Colorado tag a while back and I found that covering a lot of ground and checking out every group of does I saw, was the best way to find good bucks. I wouldn't get too anxious early on because my hunt got better every day. I'd also plan on hunting the whole hunt...especially the end.
Pre-season scouting might not be very productive. You could come early to get familiar with roads, etc. but once the rut starts, new deer often show up in places they haven't been before.
That's my 2 cents.
Best of luck

I also drew this tag, took me 9 points to get it. I'm somewhat familiar with what to expect but any pointers would be very appreciated as work has limited my scouting

How did you guys end up doing with this tag. I have enough points to draw this year and am curious how it went.

It may have been a good/great hunt if the temps weren't in the 90's,, I personally burned 12 points for it, and have had to chalk it up to a learning experience.. Which is,, NEVER put in for a tag that is weather dependent, because Mother Nature is a Beetch!!!!!!! lol

That is a bummer. Did you just not see what you were looking for? Or was is a total bust? I already submitted my app and am now having second thoughts.
