Best year ever

Just wanted to say thank you to the DWR for the awesome mentor program. My son, at 12 years old, just completed a hunting season that will be hard to top. In October he was able to share his grandpa's doe antelope tag and take his first big game animal. A few days later he was able to take his first buck on the general season tag he had drawn. And tonight, to top it off, he was able to take his first cow elk on a tag I had drawn. What awesome experience! As the cherry on top, hiking out tonight he found a moose shed and while we were skinning out his elk we were able to recover two bullets.
Anyway, thanks to the DWR for the great program, awesome opportunities the program allows, and the life long memories it helps create!

Serious though, he will never forget this fall, its great you and grandpa shared your tags with him!

Here are a few success photos to go along with the original post. I should mention that my son's grandpa and I drew cow tags for the same area. They got to double up on cows out of the same herd. They piled up within 50 yards of each other...best year ever!

Congrats to that young man having a great time harvesting some groceries. I was able to buy a mentor tag for my daughter this year as well. She shot her first buck. It was her first time putting in after finishing hunters safety. She was a little disappointed in not drawing anything her first year. So I am also thankful for the mentor program. Now we can at least talk about it. ?

Congrats Joe and son.

I know exactly how it feels. Last year, my 12 year old daughter shot her first buck and followed it up a couple months later with a cow elk. She was on cloud nine. But I am sure that I was higher than her. It was awesome. Your boy will have more successes in the future, but you are right, this year will be the one you'll both cherish the most.
