I have never taken a whitetail so me and a friend are looking to book a Hunt for 2017. Open to any state/providence except Colorado. Any suggestions on a good reliable outfitter would be appreciated my friend doesn't Bow hunt so this would have to be a rifle hunt.
Thanks

Kansas would be my first choice Neb. would be my 2nd and if you're willing to drive Buffalo county Wisconsin would be a good choice. All of these states have outfitters some are higher than others it just depends on what you can afford. Kansas is a draw state but a lot of the units can be drawn without any points. Ridge runner guide service offers a good hunt at a reasonable price for Kansas, they fill up pretty quickly if you're interested better give them a call.

Since you're talking 2017 I would apply this year for a Kansas preference point. Another place I think would be good is Iowa. You can usually draw a gun tag muzzle loader/shotgun with one point better apply this year for a point. I'm trying to draw a Southern Iowa Archery tag this year I have 3 points and I hope I draw, it's the rut and archery tags are difficult to get. I've hunted the Midwestern states quite a bit as well as Eastern Montana if I can help you with anything let me know.

7 I will defineately get the point this year and thanks for the offer maybe I'll give you a holler when I get a little farther into my research.
I just got back from my Daughters graduation from Boot camp in Oklahoma and that looked like some real nice whitetail country.

It used to be Saskatchewan was the place to go but I don't think so now. They have had some bad winters recently that have affected the trophy quality. Although it may have recovered some by 2017 if they don't have another winter. I experienced this myself between 2006 and 2008. In 2006 everyone was whacking big bucks and after a hard winter the trophy quality went from a camp average of 145 to 130.

Northern Alberta has also had some winter kill. Maybe not as much so in southern Alberta.

I'm going to Kansas this year if I draw, haven't been there before. I agree Nebraska may be a place to consider also.

On either of these it's a challenge to find the right outfitter. Some kill 125 bucks and some kill 150 and bigger. I talked to an outfitter from Kansas a couple of weeks ago and he expected 65% shooting opportunity on 130 or bigger deer. Saskatchewan would be better than that on it's worst day.

Also, most whitetail hunting is stand hunting. Even with an outfitter you may be dropped off before daylight at a stand and picked up after dark.

November in Saskatchewan or December in Kansas are both cold weather hunting

In Saskatchewan they hunt over bait, in Alberta they don't. In Kansas they may feed some but you may just be located on agricultural land.

I can't help you with Oklahoma I've driven through it but never hunted it. I forgot to mention Missouri is another good state the tags are over the counter and they do have a rifle season. The outfitter I'm using in Iowa offers hunts in both states.

WV. Most outfitters will ask if you want to sit all day and I typically try and do so, If you want to come in they should accommodate you. Most will advise you to sit all day since a lot of the biggest bucks are taken in mid day. My last trip to Kansas (rifle hunt) I sat all day and it was tuff! The Kansas rifle season is after the rut so there was long periods of sitting without seeing a deer. Two of my biggest bucks were taken after 11 am both were archery kills in the middle of the rut.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-16 AT 10:22AM (MST)[p]Ohio is a good state in particular the southern part along with north west Kentucky. I think all of the Midwestern states are good.

Seven J Outfitters in Sundance, WY. You WILL have a shot opportunity at a nice whitetail.

There is a S.D. Outfitter we are considering.
One thing I have discovered is these whitetail guides run a lot of Hunters through there camps every season. Unlike MuleDeer which (I have hunted all my life) maybe the concentration of whitetail Deer allow for this but it does make me a little Leary.

Check on Standing Rock Rez in SD they have some great stuff on that Rez.
