First of all my name is Matt and I am from Texas, so please hurry up and get all of the Texan jokes over with.I expect the usual amount of harassment and jokes anything less would be uncivilized. I am a long time lurker and absorb as much info from here as I can and I appreciate all of the help. The last time I hunted Colorado was in 97 and we hunted off of Slumgullion Pass. For the last 13 years we have been saving up preference points to go to unit 61. I am not expecting to kill one of the monsters that I know live there we are simply going because dad is 73 and wants to hunt up there again, sure we could have hunted 62 but that is not where he wanted to go. To get to my question we drew 2nd rifle with 13 points, in the past is has took at least 11 points to draw. This year 7 people drew with 6 points any idea what happened ? Did everyone burn their points last year or is this unit fading into the past as a prime trophy unit ? Also any tips would be appreciated but not expected as we dad will be there in June and again in September scouting.

Assume you are talking about deer.

I think it has been talked down a bit, but from what I hear, you should have a good hunt, see quite a few deer, and have a shot at a decent mature buck. Looks to have hovered in the 9-10 point range for the last 4 years, so not sure why it dropped that much. Abberation probably. Certainly some scuttlebutt that the "monsters" are not plentiful currently, but I hear there are some really nice bucks there.

I guess in your place I would have put in for the 3rd season, as you would have been picked there with 13 as well.

I could never understand why 2nd and 3rd season were always so close in the number of points needed to draw. I thought it was strange as 3rd takes more is almost all other units. I guess it finally went back to normal.
