Shed Hunting

Still after my first elk tag, but looking forward to some shed hunting in a couple months. I currently live in ABQ. Anyone care to share some decent spots to look for sheds in NM?

Thanks,

Mike

Don't let a set date or timeframe drive when you shed hunt.
If you are looking to kill some time, head out now.
Im not saying to trudge through places while people are trying to hunt, but you can certainly head out and start during seasons!

I've found approx 30 sheds in the last two years.... all of them were randomly throughout the year, just because I'd be out hunting, scouting, or hiking.

I hope someone shares some spots with you, but don't be surprised if they don't.
People shed hunt as a hobby or to make some extra cash..... so you'd imagine it being difficult for someone to turn over a piggy bank.

My recommendation is go hit the woods and mark areas you find sheds. (for future spots to check)
Check out nations forests, bedding areas, thick stuff, and get off the road.

If you hear of areas getting hit hard by shed hunters, don't be afraid to check that out still. The unit I shed hunt gets hit pretty hard, but I still do very well!

Good luck and take pics! I love "as they lay" pics.

>Dude is that a coues shed....
>send me those coordinates hooah!

If that was a coues shed I would have lost my mind.
However, it's almost as rare... this is a whitetail shed from NW Florida... no big deer out there they say.

Measured at 64.5"

You might have better luck getting people to give you their Social Security number these days. Haha but I agree what was said above. Go out and just basically kill time in the areas that you hunt and the sheds will eventually show up.

Rule of thumb for shed hunting...

The harder you work, the luckier you get
