Time to use some vacation?

Just looking to get a feel for unit 128 type 1 deer. I haven't made contact with a biologist nor have I put boot tracts down in the unit.

With vacation time at a premium for most of us and probably being a once in my lifetime tag. I was wondering if you guys would hesitate in applying for this unit?

Just looking at the harvest stats it looks like guys are filling most of their tags. In your opinion are they tags being filled with mature deer or are guys filling tags?

Sitting on max points and just don't want to blow it on a once in a lifetime muley hunt.

Thanks in advance fellas!!!

PM answered.

There might not be a lot of monsters, but I sure think it is right up there in the top 5 units in the state. An opportunity is what you make of it.

I hunted it a couple of years ago when the weather was perfect. Very cold and 6" of snow.
Just like they are saying, lots of bucks to look over but real hard to find a trophy caliber buck. One of the funnest hunts I have been on anyway.

Yep! What is it with this dude and all his name changes?

I've been on and off this forum for two decades. Top gun and nontypical have been around along time. As Wy winters go and we see a real bastard of a winter too often. As veterans would you guys be holding on to you deer points if you had max points or try to draw the top tier hunts.... historically 102, 87, 130, 128...

If I had 6 or more PPs I'd go back down and hunt Region G where we were in 2015 and 2016 in a heartbeat. IMHO you'll have a better chance at a good buck down there in a week of hunting than you will anywhere else in WY unless you get real lucky in one of those LQ units that are weather dependent, etc.

Just south of Wyoming MI.... how appropriate.
I drive by there every year on my way to Lewiston. My in laws live on tee lake.

Go hunt.

There's no guarantees in life.

Hunt when you can. Don't judge the quality of your hunt by inches. Don't pressure yourself to kill the biggest buck. That's a surefire way to turn a once in a lifetime hunt into a bad trip. Go have fun. Kill what looks good to you at the time. No regrets...

Of course, that's just my opinion.

Most of your options are good ones.

I would

1. draw the tag
2. do your internet scouting, buy maps
3. show with plenty of time to scout/hunt.
4. spend a day driving/looking over everywhere you were told
5. find and kill the buck you want.
