WONDERING IF ANY BODY IN IDAHO ACTUALLY GUIDES FOR A WOLF HUNT. YES.......I COULD DIY TYPE HUNT, BUT BY FINDING GOOD AREAS TO HUNT I MIGHT UP MY KILL CHANCES BY 3 OR 4 PERCENT. THE LOCAL KNOWLEDGE WOULD ALSO PROVIDE IDEAS ON MOTELS, FOOD, AND THE DETAILS OF THE HUNT.

JUST DON'T WANT TO GO ON THIS HUNT BLIND & COLD..............THANKS FOR YOUR TIME..............YD.

There are a few outfitters that do but not that many because they are so hard to hunt and the success rates are so low. I would guess in the 10% range for guided. Wolves have massive ranges and most shots at them are long range because they are so smart. It would mostly just be sight seeing. There may be an exception or two if the guides are experts and there's a lot of wolves but they aren't really patternable. There's a reason why Idaho let's someone shoot up to 5 wolves--because almost no one does.

Hunt wolves in Alaska or Canada where I think people do much better or do a bear/wolf, lion/wolf or elk/wolf combo hunt and tell the guide you really want to spend time trying to find a wolf.

There seem to be a few guys that post here and elsewhere that have filled more than one tag. I do think if you focus hard on some keys, your chance of success would rise, but I'm certainly not aware of any outfitters who seem to focus to that level.

Last year it seemed I was bumping into wolves, via sign or actual sightings, quite often, but this year only one hot track. Never could get one in Idaho(saw 3 times) to hang long enough or close enough to shoot. Had 1 in WY that just laid on a rock for 20 minutes, but no tag.

The first encounters I had with wolves(08-09), they didn't mind standing still while they new you were watching them, as long as you were a few hundred yards away. Now they seem to scoot at the highest gear they have and seem to spot me before I spot them every time.

Guiding for wolves sounds like a good biz to get into. Kind of like guiding for bigfoot or unicorns, low expectations, quick ca$h.

I only know 2 guys that have killed wolves. Each of them have killed two. His hunt days per wolf average was about 35, if I remember correctly. He spent a lot of time at low to mid elevation following wintering elk herds.

Sounds like time is the big thing. Or get into trapping, that seems the most effective to me.

Haha it's a 5 day Bigfoot hunt. Good comparison.

I told my wife I only need 35 days straight for hunting this year since I'm wolf hunting. Next year it will be 5 for elk.
