Quick question. What license does one need? The regs say a valid hunting license. Does that mean small game? Upland? Furbearer?

Not sure how Idaho classifies them

As long as you are just shooting whistle pigs, just a valid Idaho hunting license is needed. No other tags or validations are required.

With a small game hunting license you can hunt:

"Upland & migratory game birds, turkey, cottontail, snowshoe hare, huntable furbearers & unprotected & predatory birds and animals. NOT valid for first 5 days of pheasant season."

https://idfg.idaho.gov/licenses/fees-nonresident

Rock Chucks would fall under the "Unprotected animals" category.

But if you are planning on hunting big game in Idaho this year then you might as well spend the additional $50 and get a regular hunting license.

Now a few more questions.

Can I buy a 3 day license online and print it off?

Im an NR. For me a 3 day is $35.50. Is it the same for my 12 yr old?

Can my 7 yr old shoot off my license or does he need one?

Look up the Idaho fish and game you'll find it all there or give them a call if u have that many q?s

I think you can buy the license online and print a receipt but it is not valid for use in the field. Your actual license will be mailed to you.

3-day Small game license price is the same for youth and adult.

I do not think it is allowed to hunt small game in idaho until a child is 8 yrs old.

You really should call IDFG and get answers to these questions.

Thanks. Checked their site there wasn't anything about price diff.

To be honest I wouldn't have even thought about it except o read a guy got pinched for it. Just assumed them vermin?

Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Feb-28-18 AT 06:36PM (MST)[p]You could also look at the "nongame hunting" license that would allow you to shoot rock chucks for the whole year instead of 3 days.

I assume the nongame license would cover marmots, coyotes, jackrabbits, etc...

The 3-Day license might allow you to avoid the $10 Access Fee though, not sure on that.

EDIT: Pretty sure you just print these off nowadays. They mail tags, but you print licenses.
