36a mule deer

Hi all,

This year I'm thinking of heading to unit 36a. Harvest stats weren't the best last year but it looks like good country. Hoping any of you could share your experience there or any tips for hunting that area, ie early or late season, wolf population, etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

Spend a fair amount of time in that country. Steep, rocky in places, and gets hit pretty hard. With that said I don't see very many deer until late in the year along the E. Fork. If you draw the late tag I think you'd be in business. As far as general goes, I'm sure there are a few bruiser bucks around like anywhere, but I don't hunt it. I'd focus more ESE of that unit.

Oct 10-24. Not going to see much migration from bigger bucks. Could try to pattern at the start of the hunt.

Not much of a wolf population in there right now, I'd say. If the winters aren't bad, there'll be a pretty decent deer population in there.

Good luck ever drawing the late tag. Lol. As a nonresident, you'd almost have better luck with the lotto.

The winter kill last year was very hard on that unit. I hunted it last fall. It is a beautiful area but the deer population definitely took a big hit.

36a has great country for deer but the general hunt in mid October wasn?t exactly a producer of lots of buck before the harsh winter took its toll. Let's hope for at least several years of easy winters to try and rebuild what was there.
