LAST EDITED ON Sep-17-18 AT 11:29PM (MST)[p]Just wondering how the deer herds are doing in this unit. I drew the later buck hunt this year. I had this tag 6 years ago and got a shot at a nice buck but missed. Hoping to get one this time. I only spent two days in the unit last time and learned a little bit about it. Anybody else draw this tag this year? Good luck to everyone.

I assume by late hunt you mean October? I think the deer are good this year but maybe someone with more expertise will chime in. My daughter has a doe tag there in October so I will be out there also.

My brother and sister in law both have tags. The unit has good deer numbers but the age class is young. its definitely gotten harder to find a mature buck. Good luck!

Thanks Idahoguy and Sray. Hope your daughter has a fun hunt Idahoguy. Sray hope your brother and sister in law get a nice one. Thanks for replies.

Have you talked to the bio? I'm scouting the unit this year I think. I have some thoughts for you and I'll PM you. You can PM me your plan and I can share my local perspective if you want but I haven't been drawn for the unit yet.

Nope unfortunately not yet. Saw several does and a couple small bucks but nothing to put my tag on. How did your brother and sister in laws hunt go. Have you heard of many bucks being taken in 55? I know Pomerelle got a foot of snow last week wondering if that is enough to start some of the deer heading to lower country.

I saw 9 bucks on Friday, with 3 of them being mature. I screwed up and missed one that night that was 2-3 inches outside his ears. Saturday morning I took my wife (who also has a tag)to a spot where Friday morning I glassed a nice buck, 24" 4 point frame with matching 3-4" cheaters but with that freight train wind we could only turn up a small 4 point, which my wife also missed. 4 does with him and that was it for deer. Saw nothing that night.

We had a tough time with the shooting.

We had to leave Saturday night and drove thru a blizzard in the valley getting home. Tough weather conditions and feast or famine on deer.

Hi idhunters. Sounds like you saw some nice bucks. We?re the bucks still up pretty high or lower? Hope you and your wife get a nice one! Good luck!
