I can apply with my bro for a 7 point average and get the Hood Late tag or apply with my sis for a 5 point average and get the South Indigo ML tag. I've never hunted either. Pro's/Con's of either hunt?

Of course I could be nice and put my bro in for a Late tag that takes 13+ points......but after all, I am the reason he has all the points!

Would love to help, really don't know anything about either unit, although late Hood sounds interesting. Check on th ifish site. JB

I'd like to check ifish, but I am banned.

Nope. I told someone they were stupid and got banned. I think they allow more on a G rated movie than they do on that site!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-11 AT 04:32PM (MST)[p]Doesn't look like 7 points will get it this year. http://sites.google.com/site/oregontags/2012---100-series-buck-deer

I live in the Hood unit and since you got kicked off Ifish(the moderation on that site is F-ing ridiculous and the mods are complete douchebag wannabies) I will respond. It's basically going to be like a west side blacktail rut hunt. You can find some more benchleg type deer if you know where to look. I think if you hit the rut good you could take a good to great buck. Although, I won't even hunt the Hood unit as a second choice during the normal buck season.

If you do draw PM me if you have any more specific questions on the area. I do bow hunt it for elk a little still.

The HR tag will be tough if you don't know the unit real well. there aren't alot of deer and the weather can be a real challenge. I know a guy who's a pretty serious hunter and struggled filling that tag this year. imo- i wouldn't spend the points.

My favorite hunts are because they were with friends and family not just because "I got one".

LAST EDITED ON Dec-17-11 AT 10:31AM (MST)[p]I would agree. 8+ point to draw is more than I would spend on this hunt with all things considered. The late hunt on the other side of the HR Valley(White River late) is the hunt to go after. It's the best deer hunt in the state. You can just drive the roads up by my dads house and see monster bucks all day long during the rut. Those deer are on private, but the public is very close by. I will never draw it, but if a guy did I he could expect to see some real toads if he hunted hard and smart.
