Tehama Wildlife area

I was told by Tony Welch(he runs the wildlife area) that OHV are not allowed on Tehama Wildlife area anymore. I tried talking to him about the rules, but that wasn't happening. I'm not sure if he was having a bad day or just doesn't like talking about the wildlife area he runs, but he was not very pleasant to talk to. Has anyone else heard this new rule?

My brother rides that area on his quad all the time. He ran into a game warden a while back by a new sign posted at one of the entrances and asked about it. He was told that a new law was passed that bans all atv's etc from all fish and wildlife areas in Ca. The warden told him that all the wardens in the north state didn't like the fact that it included areas like Tehama Wildlife area because the law was in response to areas down south where atv's were doing damage. TWA was not getting any damage from atv's, so they didn't like the law. Another joke by our State Fish and Wildlife.

I have heard the same thing. Mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it irritates the crap out of me all the guys riding around on quads roadhunting deer. On the other hand, the main travel roads in that WA have gotten so washed out and in poor repair over the years, you can't even really drive a normal vehicle on them. If they're so worried about "damage," I guess they better start outlawing rain too(or maybe they already did.) Seems to me like they could confine ATV's to the main travel roads. I don't see them doing any more damage than a regular vehicle.

I believe he also said that the lead ammo ban is taking effect this year on the wildlife area. I'm bringing this up because I think a lot of people will not be aware of the new changes. You could be looking at some pretty good fines for driving in there on a quad and quail hunting with lead shot. It really doesn't make sense that you can drive a truck, but not a quad.

NOTHING makes sense in this state! I've given up on that. You can be your a$$ though that DFW will be out in force generating revenue to support all the other freeloader programs in the state.
