My wife drew the G3 this year, we went out scouting this weekend saw quite a few bucks, nothing big, I know it is not what it once was, but she will be happy if we can find a decent buck. We got some snow yesterday, so we are hoping to see some new bucks this weekend on the opener, looking forward to getting back up there! We mostly saw 3 pointers, a few smaller 4 x's. Hope to have some more pics to post soon.

Healthy looking critters,I wish they would start some Managment hunts in some of the better late season areas ,it seems like this mature 3x gene is running rampant anymore and needs to be cleaned out a little.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-28-16 AT 11:31PM (MST)[p]I've been saying the same thing about the management hunt. Rotate every few years. It would sure help some of the good 3xs be taken and some of the decent 4xs left to breed a bit. It seems some of the hunters would rather kill a young 4x4 than a mature 3x just because it's supposed to be a trophy hunt.

Agreed, we are looking at the bigger mature three's over the small 4's for sure, we are hoping for a mature large buck, defiantly the genetics for 3 points are the prevalent gene up there at this point. We are hoping to find a big mature 4 point though!

Im sure it would be a process that would take a few years to see results,it would take years to get that gene out of the does.

I know Utah does a 3x3 hunt in one of their trophy units that's what we need. Or we could just require copper bullets and outlaw killing mountain lions I'm sure that will help.

Having a management hunt there would also help out with point creep as a lot of guys just want to go hunt those deer. I'd love to burn my points to go shoot a huge 3x3. I hope your wife kills a buck she likes and has a fun time.

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

Hahahahaha you made me laugh so hard my cocktail came out of my nose.

G3 has been the red headed step child for quite some time. Wish they'd change anything at this point.

Cool photos. Thanks for sharing Devon and good luck with the wifey.

I did... but the game can't quit me. Don't get me confused with that other guy alright.

Mulebuck:

I was heart broke to learn the 'burrito lady' at the gas station in Big Pine was no longer in business! I was really looking forward to it.

Hope all is well.

It was a quick hunt, my wife decided she liked one of the bucks we saw last weekend. We saw many bucks, quite a few that we hadn't seen last weekend including one really nice buck. We saw the 3 x 4 from the weekend before again on Sat morning, but didn't she didn't shoot it, then later she told me she wished that she had. Mid day we went back to look for it and one other buck that was quite a bit wider, but not as tall. She didn't really like that one, so we drove up the mountain further and some people we meet earlier flagged us down they said they had seen a couple of bucks go into some heavy brush. We tried to go up above them to look down into the cover and see if she liked either one, but the buck chased a doe out while we were moving up the hill, so we came back down. I told her it was the buck she liked earlier, and that was the end of the hunt! She had only ever killed a couple of small bucks in UT on some black powder hunts, and a couple of antelope before this, she is really happy with this buck and the fact she made a good shot and it went down quickly. I was looking forward to spending some more time up there, it was a fun hunt with plenty of bucks to look over, next year I will just go back to enjoy it again!

Very nice! Congratulations to the lady. VERY refreshing to see a kill photo with just one (or two) people in the shot as opposed to a posse with a dozen "helpers". Great job to the both of you. You're gonna shoulder mount it for her right? ;)

All is well... minus the Chevron being closed down. I think its been close to two years now and I'm still not over it. Really miss that machaca burro.

She said to tell everyone thanks for the congrats, she is very happy about it, yes I am going to mount it, it is 24" wide. Wish we were going back this weekend!
