My grandfather and i were fortunate enough to draw deer tags this year in units 71-79 &91. Along with deer tags, we both purchased the depredation cow elk tags as well. Never hunted this part of nevada as we have been huntig california, idaho, and colorado while waiting to try and draw a non resident nevada tag. Driving through jackpot headed to idaho every year i see lots of deer migrating out of this area . Can anybody give me some info on resident deer in this area or are these units really dependant on weather and migration to get the big bucks moving into the units west of Jackpot. I am thinking of scouting in late August and pulling my travel trailer to jackpot as a home base. We have aj jeep, rhino, and quads to drive dirt roads. Any info on road conditions and what zone maybe better to focus on would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking the deer may be easier to find than the cow elk. I am 30% disabled from a work accident and have had two back surgeries so any extremely steep terrain back country pack out locations are probably out. My grandfather is in his mid 70?s so we are going to have help from family members packing anything we may harvest. Really steep mountain country will probably be out but we are not afraid to hike 7-10 miles a day to get off the roads and away from hunting pressure. Thanks in anvance fir any help.

Zsniper, Don?t know if your joking or not about knowing, but that is a misprint on your pops?s tag. Those tags should only be for cows (antlerless). Kalkomey and NDOW has sent out emails saying they had a problem and those tags are no good and void. They are sending out new ones ASAP. Don?t want your pops to get in trouble for killing a bull on the elk management tag. Mine said the same but knew it was to good to be true. Lol

Wow, that's a real mistake! I'm sure someone is still
Going to shoot a bull with the wrong tag and say they did not know.....

Only someone who wants to knowingly break the law would do that. When we put in for the draw we knew the option was for an antlerless cow elk management tag that went along with the deer tag. There was no option for bulls. Even the first tag they mistakenly sent out said on part of it, that it was an antlerless tag. The problem was the part that goes on the carcass said antlered.
It also had the units that it was good for wrong which could be a problem if not paying attention. But the bull part should be easy to know it couldn't be true because nowhere did we ever sign up for a bull tag.
They?ve sent out two emails and a letter now telling us to discard the first tag and that it was void so there should be no mistakes ?unknowingly? made with someone shooting a bull instead of a cow.

Thanks guys. Just received new tags but the dates for the cow still show may25 thru December 31st so I will call NDOW next week to discuss the elk tag and dates .

Looking forward to scouting in August with my brother and our boys.

Thanks
