Just wondering how the deer are doing in the Peace River area this winter. I have a chance to archery hunt there this fall and hope all of the deer are doing well.

I just checked the weather up there, 30 below, damn cold. I'm going in November 08 myself. Hoping no big winter kill.

Last year there was over 50%+ winter kill and i have heard as high as 70-80 in some areas.

This winter is wayyyyyy worse then last year.We have had weeks and weeks of -30 to -40 all the way since middle of November.I can't even begin to describe to you the amount of snow we have.

You will still find some good bucks but the big old 6- 10 year old bucks are 6 feet under.

I will post some alberta buck pic's for you Gents when i get some days off.Who did you guys book your hunt with?

Jeff

Hi Jeff, I was re-reading your message about Peace country winter. Just wondering if you had taken any pictures of mulies this summer and what you think the overall herd will look like this fall. I have a hunt booked in 523 around Donnelly. Hope things are looking positive. Have a enjoyable hunting season. Thanks Robert

My inlaws live in Falher ( about 5 mins from Donnelly) I live in Grande Prairie and work in the oilpatch alot around there. In the last week i've seen about 40 bucks, 5 of which were definate shooters. Good luck on your hunt.

Thanks for the reply Newdrenalin. I will be hunting 10 miles North of Donnelly. I will fly into GP and drive on up. In November which way by highway is the best and most convenent North or East toward valleyview. I was in GP two years ago in the big snow storm and most roads were clear.I was hunting around Grande Cache. Looking forward to returning-Alberta is a beautiful place.Good luck on your season also !!

Hi Robert,

Yes I have been up in the peace country a bit but not nearly as much as i would like.I have a few more days of work and then we will be heading up scouting till the start of bow season.Numbers are still down but i think if you are with a good outfitter there will still be good bucks to be had. Also depends on what size of buck you are looking for.I don't want to comment yet on the numbers of good bucks until i get up there and put in a good week of scouting.I will post what i have when i get off work and i will have my laptop when scouting,so i can keep you up to date on what i find.

Good luck on your hunt.Let me know how it goes.

Jeff.

Thanks for the news guys. I'll be heading up the 23rd for my bow hunt. From what I have heard, it has been REAL DRY. Not much for yields or cover in the farm fields and it could be a tough bow hunt. Sounds like there are still some solid bucks, but they will be tough to get if they are bedded in the bush since the crop fields lack cover this year. Any news will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
