LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-17 AT 08:55PM (MST)[p]Push your partisanship aside, for discussion's sake the current POTUS is from a new 3rd Party. Fair enough?
To put this in perspective all you have do is change a few land mass names around to immediately understand why we need China as a willing ally to find a peaceful means into having a longstanding favorable outcome. That's a nice way of saying millions of dead people, million more down the road will not die. China is N. Korea's backyard neighbor. To illustrate this and what this relationship means let's switch some land mass names around.
North Korea is about the size of N. Carolina and S. Korea is a little smaller in land mass.
For discussion's sake, it would be as if N. Carolina is N. Korea and the rest of the U.S. is China. Do you think for a single second that we (being China) would allow some oversees country which in this case would be the U.S. to launch or drop muclear bombs/missiles at N.Korea/N.Carolina?
Of course not! Never, we would never allow that nor we would we allow a regime change to take place. China does not want a Pro-Western new neighbor thank you very much. Who could blame them we had our own issues with Cuba.
What's on the table...
Japan, Okinawa, Beijing, Hawaii, possibly the west coast could all be viable targets. Millions of people will die in week one, millions globally years later. An EMP over our skies could kill 90% of our population within a year.
As illustrated above it is easy to understand China's position and rightly so. Under sanctions N.Korea shifted it's economic stream over to selling resources to China. Lil Kim has been successful by defying sanctions to the point of even growing the economy.
Through many administrations US policy has been Silence and Sanctions. Lil Kim has found a way around it, the matter does have to addressed. However should policy for Silence and Sanctions shift instantly to dropping nuclear weapons?
We currently have 2/3 of our Pacific Fleet either in or heading towards the South China Sea. This is the largest build up of Maritime forces since WWII in the Asian-Pacific theater. We are amassing the largest ever joint war games with the S. Koreans under Project Foal Eagle.
China recently reversed their position and stopped purchasing coal from N.Korea as a form of sanctions. President Xi thought a deescalation such as to reduce the size of the war games to their original size may help defuse tensions.
Putin met Lil Kim awhile back and said he would disarm his nukes in exchange for rockets and equipment for a space program. Right...wtf, like that would ever happen? So China has on the surface made gestures and is open to imposing sanctions.
And now for The Problem...
Today our President stated we will go it alone. Not sure what the "It" is but all of this while polling at 35% in what is normally known as Honeymoon Period. It would not be shocking to state his administration appears to be filled with daily turmoil of scandalous nature.
The Presidents statement came just hours after Gen. Hyten gave congressional testimony stating;
"Any solution to the North Korean problem has to involve China," Hyten told the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Again, understanding China's location and relationship with N. Korea rightly so.
The problem or disconnect lies between our POTUS and the top military official who serve him. Common sense supports our military position on the matter. We are sending stuff we don't usually send to the annual war game like the USS Stethen which is sporting our newest anti-missile system. This on top of sending our B-52 nuclear bomber to S. Korea.

Are you guys ready to have stand-off between both Dear Leaders? Are we really going to go from Silence to Strong-arm with no room for real diplomacy in between. Man, if you got a kid boots on the ground in that theater, he's fodder, Seoul will only exist in photographs. The last time we took a "Your either with us or against us" approach it turned out to be costly. Of course you don't have to worry about rebuilding when the ground is radioactive.
