Best place to get maps

Aren?t you in southern Utah ? Sportsman in St George has a new map section. That maybe a place to go and look threw them.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-18 AT 10:11PM (MST)[p]I absolutely will not go hunting now without a map from rugged maps. They are super durable but most importantly they are large. Why is this important in the day of maps on your GPS and I PHone. It gives you a much clearer view of terrain and the relation of different points of interest to each other. I don't think you can beat them.

I have used Utah Idaho Supply for maps. They are going out of business so you may be able to get a good price on them. They are the waterproof TOPO maps.

Look at a mobile App.
My buddy had Onxmaps it was awesome.

Get BLM maps from BLM. Go to their web site and you can order them. Much cheaper than getting them from a third party.

Forest Service maps....same idea.

Topo maps - go to USGS and you can download them onto your computer....free. You can put them on an iPad too. If you want hard copies.....you can order them from USGS. Cheaper than a third party deal.

I went hunting this last fall. Had maps. Ran into a fellow who was relying on his OX ? maps that was loaded into his GPS. Too small to see good detail. Could not look at the whole picture to know where to go in the first place. I gave him a BLM map of the area.

Safety - always carry a good paper map and a compass when you go out there and get off the road. Read that last sentence again ......and again.

Again I agree here. Downloadable maps are great when you in the field hunting but a good BLM or Forest service map and/or another large map like Rugged Maps out of Oregon are better for getting a view of the area and roads as a whole. IMO
