2012 Mountain goat area 1. I would like to thank MM for the help i received during my scouting/planning/prep. I was able to harvest this goat above the dill-worth bench on the clarks fork river. we had spotted this billy in August and had seen him every scout trip after. We waited until mid September for the hair quality. We hunted hard and could not believe the country these animals live in. We finally spotted him again on the 21st around 2pm after glassing him bed the night before. we had little time before the billy was back in the cliffs and i had to make a 422 yard shot. He measured 9 3/8 on both horns. It was an amazing DIY hunt i will always remember. A special thanks to my dad. He is my hero and i couldn't have done it without him!

I posted a couple pictures of goats we had seen while scouting as well!

Awesome goat. thats really nice for that area. most hunters in that area shoot the first billy they see and they dont get a chance to grow that big. in other words you did dam well

>Very nice goat. Congrats. You don't
>look that old how many
>points did you draw the
>tag with?

in wyoming for a resident there is no points just a random draw. i got my tag at 24. for non-residents i dont know if there is points for goats.

Yes I am extremely fortunate. I am 19 years old and nfh is correct as there are no points just random draw. nfh, your billy is extremely impressive. In your post you said you had packed in? Where were you?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-12 AT 02:26PM (MST)[p]i was in area 3. which was a brand new area started last year. they started it cause the game and fish cant get people to go other places than clarks fork. also the game and fish dont like mountain goats from what the game warden was telling me.

i got my billy not far from cooke city. cooke city is in montana but as you go up the trail i went it steps back into wyoming. not far from pilot peak.....

Hey Dillon that's a really nice goat. Curious as to what type of food you guys took. Did you happen to have a bag of Nacho Cheese Dorito's for the trip? Those things get kind of soggy when kids lick the cheese off and put em back in the bag! LOL

HAHA yes they can be Brad! How are you guys?? Holy cow what a hunt. Had any luck this year??

I did a lot of research before my hunt and i went with the eberlestock J107 with the zip in spike duffel. For my hunt it couldn't have worked better. I was able to pack out the entire goat head and cape out plus all of my gear with zero problem. It seams they have thought of just about everything on the pack. the scabbard is really handy in rough terrain. Also the detachable fanny is perfect for those final approach situations. The only complaint i have is the water bladder compartment. its a little bit of i tight fit when its full. Also overall the pack is a bit heavy. I suggest getting the J34 which is slightly smaller if you intend to day hunt out of it for elk and mule deer. But if you want a heavy hauler for all your gear and your animal, go with the bigger sturdier J107.

Very cool congrats on your goat. Would love to shoot one, but who knows how long that could take.

Things have been really slow on this side of the state this year, not much luck deer hunting probably end up eatting my tag. That's ok though I had a really fun time taking our son hunting he's starting to get really passionate about it just like you were when you were his age. Congradulations on that goat we'll all have to get together again.

Thanks! I would, but i have no idea who to contact or how to go about it. Do you know anything about that? I already have the hunt written up so i wouldn't forget any of the details, so it would be easy to give to somebody.

Dude that is one beautiful billy, love the long hair and the clean look. Lots of goats end up tumbling down the mountain and getting torn up, yours is perfect.

Thanks for sharing.
