I waited too long to hunt Utah general. You can always email me if you have some suggestions. Would like to do an earlier hunt with Dad because we already have a CO 3rd season hunt in the works. Want a little time in between hunts so a late Sept hunt is ideal. Is this too many points to burn on a ML hunt? I guess it doesn't really matter as we'll make the best of the hunt regardless.I wished non res. could put in with res. I'd have you put in with me.
Long time no talk, BESS! I hope all is well.
I'll look into it. That's just what I remember hearing a while back. If that's the case, I think I'll be taking the "founder" path to getting a tag every year from hear on out.Was unaware that res and non res couldn't apply as a group....Better re-check the guidebook...I have done that before.
Your missing the point.Founder puts in with other NRs. Not residents.
So would this example be correct?Average rounding down
deadibobFor those of you with five-eight general deer points, have you just been putting in for points or has your luck been that bad to not draw a tag. I assumed any general deer tag could be had with 3-4 points but haven't looked at odds for those hunts.
I'm teaming up with someone this year with four points and I have two. I'll be interested next year.deadibob
I have been applying for limited entry deer hunts and also buy a preference point at the same time. I have 12 preference points for general deer as a non-resident. Maybe I should team up with a resident that knows a good place to hunt general deer.
Anyone interested?

Hell Ridge,I'm teaming up with someone this year with four points and I have two. I'll be interested next year.
I've moved onto greener pastures.Hell Ridge,
Looks like you are gonna be good for a lil bit these next few years. Don’t kill all of them back there ha ha
I’m in the same boat. I drew a LE deer tag in 2013 and since have been buying both general and LE deer pts. I don’t see me hunting Utah deer unless I get lucky on an LE hunt or I retire. In 3 years I’ll have about 8 general deer points.Ive been drawing LE Elk tags almost every year for the past 8 years! one of those years I guided my nephew in new mexico for elk. Now I just want to burn the deer points and I don't care if I shoot small buck this year, just want a fun hunt.
Gotcha seems like to be a one hell of a pasture ?I've moved onto greener pastures.
So that Pine Valley early was pretty good, huh? It takes a good chunk of points. I was wondering if it's worth it.I burned 5 non res on an early rifle deer in pine valley mainly because I've hunted it a bunch in archery. Was worth it.
Do they migrate early down there or something?I think that unit is hard to draw for any of the seasons. I know some guys feel that early hunt is tough because of the deer migration.
Yes, same as zion and pauns.Do they migrate early down there or something?
Interesting. I've been kicking around selecting that unit.Yes, same as zion and pauns.
I thought so. Again I was very familiar with the area I was in. Since I usually hunt archery I'm used to being kind of alone out there in the center of the unit. With the early rifle I was unprepared for how many people I saw, some actually hunting, and lots driving around scouting for the next weeks rifle hunt.So that Pine Valley early was pretty good, huh?
