Any pictures of it?Well I could tell you from personal experience and show you a picture of it in my trophy room if I hadn’t missed the world record at 15 yards in 2015. It still hurts my soul.
He was killed during the muzzy hunt a couple weeks after I screwed up.Any pictures of it?
Oof that’s a bummer!Well I could tell you from personal experience and show you a picture of it in my trophy room if I hadn’t missed the world record at 15 yards in 2014. It still hurts my soul.
Yes! I dream about it every night and wake up in cold sweats. You completely missed the whole bull at 15 yards? Not to kick salt in the wound, that will haunt you forever! Dang!
What the hell happened? That's a rough one.Yes! I dream about it every night and wake up in cold sweats.
It can happen, sometimes the easiest shots are the toughest! Easy shots on world class animals just flat out would make you puke. Thanks for sharing, I know I've missed chip shots I sure would like back! If you find Doc Brown's time machine pick me up.Yes! I dream about it every night and wake up in cold sweats.
You're not alone buddy, I missed the eventual gov tag bull that same year, with a rifle...Yes! I dream about it every night and wake up in cold sweats.
I didn't miss but blew a opportunity at a bull that I'm sure would have been top 3 with a bow if not #1. Figure he was upper 420's as a straight 6x6.Yes! I dream about it every night and wake up in cold sweats.
I had this same scenario happen on a 370 class bull, bull at 22 yards, branches at 20 yards, figured I could get it through...... nope found arrow stuck 8 foot up in a tree 15 yards behind where the bull was standing. And one pencil thin branch that was barely cut, and still hanging so it didn't even cut it all the way off, that one blade had touched...... that's my other nightmare that I think about. LolThe misses sure stick with you! I missed a buck on the Paunsaugunt back in 2003 that was probably a 180-190" main frame and over 200" with extras. Shot high and nicked him, but not a vital shot with a tiny bit of blood. Still have nightmares on that one 20 years later.
A few years back in Wyoming on a general elk tag, I had found a very promising looking area on Google Earth that looked like a huge wallow area. Sure enough when we laid eyes on it in person on opening morning, it was an epic wallow with very fresh sign. I set up on the wallow, and around noon a very nice 6 point bull came in and started splashing in the wallow 33 yards away from me. I was on my knees drawn back and had some pine boughs between me and the bull. I thought I could thread my arrow through them. Nope! My arrow caught one of the pine boughs and deflected and I never saw that arrow or the bull again. Makes me sick almost every day!! Not a world record class animal, but the view of that bull at 33 yards with no clue I was around will probably haunt me forever!!?
I know how you feel. It's ok. NOT!He was killed during the muzzy hunt a couple weeks after I screwed up.

Marley, the bull you missed was taken by our goods friend’s sister in law from Cache Valley on the MZ hunt. I have seen the mount in person and it is an absolute monster. Were you on a guided hunt that year? If so, who was the guide service? The next day I passed up this bull at 30 yards in the exact same spot because I had my heart set on the one I missed. Never saw the 450” bull again. Spent my last 6 days trying to find him again.

I was on a guided hunt with Doug Johnson who at the time guided for Kalan Lemon. We were not after that bull specifically. We had no idea he existed. We just happened onto him one day. He was with another bull and just feeding towards us so we just stayed low and let him come. When he came out from behind a huge boulder I think I lowered my peep to make sure it was the right bull and then put my 20 yard pin on him without getting back in my peep sight. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!Marley, the bull you missed was taken by our goods friend’s sister in law from Cache Valley on the MZ hunt. I have seen the mount in person and it is an absolute monster. I’m thoroughly convinced that the biggest bulls never stop moving. They travel absurd amounts of ground, across drainages, ranges, units etc etc. You get 1 shot at them by just being in the right place right time and if you mess up by the time you figure out they’ve moved they’re literally on another mountain.I actually called and talked to her. I had to know where he went because I spent the next 6 days passing up everything looking for him again. She ended up killing him 8 miles from where I missed him.
Them blown opportunities on giants sure stick with a guy. Hate to say it but I have a few. One a 200 plus Whitetail in Iowa, a 220 plus mule deer in Idaho. Chased it all day on Thanksgiving. I had at under 20 yard's in the cedars, perfect broadside shot couldn’t see the head. Wasn’t sure it was the right deer! Should have shot!!! Another one I’m stopping after this I need to sleep tonight! Shot right above the spine on a 33 inch 6x9 in Colorado probably over 210. I think it was 25 yards. Sometimes it’s hard to sleep!!!
