Absolutely a good thing! Anything to keep this in front of the people. Even if it's just Tri's incessant garbage that has helped keep this thread pegged at the top of the most viewed forum for the past couple weeks. Thanks Tri!!

Joe, as you can see, your flower-power model of kindness was thrown out the window years ago. Public resource is under attack, the American hunting model is under attack and you want one of the most informed and articulate counter voices to just smile and be nice? Are you kidding?!? Do you...

    SFW/MDF @ The Expo

Impressive! So glad to have a group that is out front in protecting our western hunting heritage! Meanwhile, while not contributing a dime to this scam this weekend, my son and I was going through the Utah odds/application for what should be his first Utah deer hunt (12 years old). Thanks to...

    >I think most sportsmen are perfectly >fine with the process I think most sportsmen don't know what they don't know. There are a few thousand guys at most that have followed this closely enough to know what a raw deal the citizens of Utah are getting. Of those couple thousand or so that...

Solid reporting. I would have liked to have seen it more clearly stated that the DWR out-rightly accepted a substantially lower SFW bid for the 2017-2021 exp. That's a fact, as was everything else reported. Glad someone finally put this out in front of eyes other than ours. It needs to go to a...

Wyoming Region G- How to get away from the horses?

Stay away from the established trails and easy ridge tops. I don't know what else to tell you. You've already got it figured out, you just need to put it in practice now. You're on the right track. Certainly archery has less pressure, but it doesn't take much in those tight little basins to...

    Who uses radio's?

Whether they'd admit it or not, I would wager that 95% of western hunters use radios in ANY way that best benefits them. I'd suppose the P&Y and B&C stipulations are what drives the perception and openness into the shadows, even though its entirely legal. No one wants to be seen picking their...

    My New Title

How's your son Cain doing? I'd heard him and Able had a little falling out awhile back. Hope the rest of the family is good. Congrats on the new addition! Really though, very cool, congrats! Not many get to see their posterity across 6 generations. Pretty amazing really.

    Mule Deer article on ksl?

Yep, nailed it! How the herds and ratios are doing can be debated either way. This is pure marketing and that can't be debated.

    Trekking poles

Nearly all trekking poles are adjustable so you can find the length that works best for you. Generally, a 90 degree angle at the elbow is a good starting point.

    Trekking poles

You could spend $200+ on the best-of-the-best, or like about anything, you can find a good mid-rage comparable for a whole lot less. I've got a lower end pair of aluminum Black Diamonds. But if I was in the market I'd probably get these...

Eel, tell me about making salami. Did you buy a starter? Have you made it before? Good dry salami it hard to beat, but the whole curing thing makes me a little uneasy.

    Trekking poles

I always thought they were for yuppies. I didn't own any spandex so why would I need trekking poles either. I now take them every time... but still don't own any spandex.

    The Revenant Movie

Founder, I have the same mental tick. Somethings like that just drive me crazy enough that it can really bug me through the whole movie. I just saw a show a couple weeks ago on netflix, can't even remember the name. They were hunting deer in the upper northwest. The hunter was packing a double...

    Venison BACKSTRAP

Kilbuc nailed it! No matter how you like to spice it up or marinade it, never, never over cook it! I'm convinced that this is how many wifes or non-hunters get turned of to good game meat. Overcooking makes it tough and really turns the gaminess off-putting. My favorite is a simple hot, hot...

    taxidermist time frame question.

The very good business professionals, well organized and driven taxis run 3-6 months typically for the best available turn around. It goes up from there. The hobbiest, turned earn-an-extra-buck guy working out of his basement, or the just down right crappy business professional can easily go 2...

    UDWR Broke the Law!

Judge: UDWR acted unlawfully, judge says Salt Lake City ? An order filed in 3rd District Court on Thursday vacated the awardance of a 5 year Hunting Expo contract and 200 associated big game tags to Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife (SFW), saying the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR)...

    Looking for a tent

+1 For 3 guys, you'll definitely want a 4 man tent. The Cablea's Warthog looks like it might be up you're ally and comes in under $400. Unless you're staking out on Everest or hunting Alaska, I never been in a situation where my 3 season didn't do what I needed.

Stories of a secret life 9

Well Eel, I've read everyone. Clearly these mingle reality with fiction, if fictional at all. This writer is certainly engaging. As I mentioned before, these have highlighted a fragment of a culture that I'm completely naive to. Real people, living real lives, making good choices, making bad...

    Internet scouting for elk

Food, water and bedding are not what I look for when internet scouting. All three of those are available if you're in the zone. Where I hunt its the middle zone, broken pocket country above the vast dense pine forests but below the high, high alpine peaks. I spend far more time finding the...

    The best game meat?

I've had a string of good luck the past few years taking a few big mature bull elk...without a doubt, NOT my favorite game meat. Pronghorn has been one of my favorites, but good luck trying to convince many other hunters of that. The perception of Pronghorn is very two sided, you either love it...

    New to the game

LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-15 AT 01:57PM (MST)[p]+1 You're managing a 1.5" vertical group at 100 yards with open sights!!! That's damn good. There's guys that can't do that with a centerfire and scope. Tighten up your horizontal with practice and you're golden.

    Gettin back into it/Help

A 16 year old PSE verses what is out now... Yes, upgrade. I'd look at a 1-3 year old used Hoyt. You'll save a ton of cash and have a cutting edge bow. Not much difference between what they are putting out this year and what they put out a couple years ago. Big difference from 16yrs ago though...

    Utah Expo Contract Decision

LAST EDITED ON Dec-15-15 AT 01:58PM (MST)[p]In this or ANY scenario, having one board member in the position of a potential conflict of interest is a concern but understandable...but to have a MAJORITY of the board in conflict limbo is appalling!!! How long did it take?

2nd year, but more out of luck than anything. It starts to come together over time. I found more success as I become a better hunter versus shooter. Shooting for me came easy, finding and closing in on an animal is far tougher. Every blown stalk hurts, but you sure learn a lot.

    Save the Uinta Bighorns

Thank LBH for the heads up. I spend a lot of time in those areas. I can't express enough how detracting it is to come across a herd of domestics or even hiking through were they've recently been. Not to mention the wild bighorn concerns. Comments sent.
