Another reason 38-9 is harder to draw is that it's one of at least 3 units you can't draw a Type 1 and hunt during archery season - You have to have Type 9 to hunt archery. On top of that 38-9 has had a ton of discussion on the internet.

Depends on the area I think. There were some bucks acting pretty rutty on my Utah general hunt last week and areas in Colorado had reports of the same, but it wasn't widespread by any means. Next week should be good in a lot of places.

If it's really important to hunt 2016 I would look at the border units in Oct/Nov and put them as your 1/2 choice. If you don't have points now you won't be losing anything and you won't be chancing anything with leftovers.

A lot of the western Colorado winter range has had a healthy dose of snow and extended cold. The good news is that most animals are going into winter in good health with plenty of fat reserves, and the available forage is in pretty good shape but it would be nice to see the snow cover burn off...

I've used Slick Trick Mags and Snuffer SS with success. A javelina's heart and lungs will fit in the palms of your hands so this is a case where maximum cut diameter would be a benefit. I'm a fixed blade fan but I debate every year whether to go with a 2"+ cut mechanical.

Usually some group (disabled vets, etc) collect the hides, have them tanned, then make gloves and other leather goods to sell.
