Hey folks, I posted another thread on here asking about some general non-resident questions, but I figured that would be overlooked as I have a new inquiry. I am used to hunting New Mexico, but now live in North Dakota and will plan to hunt Montana. As for the general licenses, what can you tell...

    Non-Res Montana Questions

Hey folks, I have recently been assigned to Minot ND, from a base in New Mexico where I was fortunate enough to hunt elk almost every year. With ND being an OIL Elk hunting state, I have focused most of my energy into the Montana Non-Res hunts. Here are a couple questions I am hoping to get...

    North Dakota / South Dakota

Hey folk's, I just received some orders to Minot AFB, ND and was wondering if anyone was willing to shoot some advice about big game hunting throughout ND and SD? I've lived in NM for the past 5 years so I know it will be a culture shock from western big game hunting. Any advice helps! Thanks.

    Annual Rain Tracker Thread

I check the radar two or three times daily and it looks like the north-northwest portion of the Gila has been getting slammed. Whether or not the radar is actually producing accurate information, that's another story.

    bears in gila

I have about 6-8 different bears on camera this year. They seem to like water. Also, two years ago I ran into 4 bears just hiking around on my elk hunt. Got 60yrds from one who had no idea I was there, however I didn't have a bear tag. Gila is bear country.

    Elk Rut advice

LAST EDITED ON Aug-15-16 AT 03:27PM (MST)[p]Well, I think it's relative to the area in New Mexico, but in 2014 in the Gila unit I was hunting the rut was between the 2nd week of the 1st season through the 2nd weak of the 2nd season. Last year... if you had a muzzleloader tag you were hunting the...

    Sendero

I recently picked up a rem700LR which is a couple hundred less than the sendero. Comes with the heavy barrel and the bell and Carlson m-40 stock. Something you may want to look into. Mine is a 7mm rem mag, and I love that thing.

Ok, so cameras are a go then. Not sure how much standing water is in the area but I see a few "tanks" labeled around the unit. We will see, I guess. Mozey, are you in 16E this year?
