Pants are squarely on. Just making an observation. Wow I better stop typing due to my head spinning from that brilliant switch-roo :) p.s. classic working in The Jetsons and Charlie Brown references.

A better title would be obfuscation at its finest. If you can't get the topic nuked you then try to detract from it by pointing out the obvious drug problems that are a plague state and nationwide!

    K&K tripod and pistol grip

I currently use one. Solid tripod and I don't mind the pistol head. Handles my sts 65 well. If you can get it half-off I'd jump on it.

Any one know of a big deer in Unit 30 or 61??? Please help

Coloradoboy, you've helped restore my faith in the hunting scene. I have to admit I've slowly became very jaded about the direction hunting in this country is headed - which appears to be so focused on the commercialism of hunting. All I can say is thanks for doing what you did for this guy and...

    54 or 55

I hunted 55 archery in 2010. Hunted two areas that have held some real giants in the past, but never did see a buck over 150". Great country, fun hunt, but the deer are down.

    Ethical Hunter

I killed my last buck within the city limits of a town that allows bowhunting. As long as hunters take the proper safety precautions and its legal what is the problem? I guess this is a question for the ethics police to parse out!

294 gross muley shot in Sask.

Congrats to Cody - the guy has killed some pigs! I wish I got WildTV (Canadian Channel) on my DirectTV because his show (Live2Hunt) is better than 99.9% of the shows on the U.S. hunting channel. He really seems down to earth and has a real passion for killing some serious animals.

    Colorado Muley

Awesome archery buck. He must be confusing P&Y (145-typical; 170- non-typical) with B&C (190-typical; 230 non-typical). That buck makes the P&Y for sure!

    Super-WIDE!!!

    Gunnison Bucks question

I hunted 55 archery last year, mostly between 10-12,000 feet. I found a few young bucks, but nothing with any size and the overall deer numbers really seemed down to me. Judging from the comments above, it doesn't sound like this year is much of an improvement. Sadly, it may take the Basin a...

How far will your scent bother elk?

In my experience, elk are far more tolerant of suspicious movement than they are of human scent. Most elk will severely blow out of the area if they catch your scent on the wind - especially if they have been pressured. To get close to elk, scent control and playing the wind are a must.

That is why Fred Bear is such a legend - he gets it. Despite all his kills and success as a bowhunter he truly understands what makes hunting so special. Thanks for posting.

Mystery ranch CC or Eberlestock Dragon Fly?

I'm the flipside of dryflyelk - I went from the EBW to a Mystery Ranch NICE frame and two diferent bags (the CC and Cerberus) which covers daypack or extended trip scenarios. I really love the fit and feel of the MR's with a heavy load. What I disliked about the EBW was that the shoulder straps...

+1 on dmb_14's experience. Paired with a lightweight tripod the ED50 is priceless on a backcountry hunt.

    Velvet Bucks Taste?

I'm convinced its a dietary thing. I've had great venison shot both early and late, and some venison that was nasty as nasty shot early. The best venison I ever tasted came from a midwest whitetail that dined daily on corn and beans.

    YOUR NAME IN A TREE???

Guilty. Never my name or initials, but I have carved my kids names when they have been with me. I enjoy seeing them when I'm in the hills - gives me a sense of history. My favorites in my area are the naked ladies and genitalia carved by the Mexican sheepherders that date back to the turn of...

    Turkeys in Monitcello, blanding area

I live in the area and have hunted it for ten years - last year was by far the worst I've ever seen it. Areas where I have always found some birds were devoid of tracks or sign. Due to deep snow, the birds died by the hundreds last winter. This winter was a little better, but I agree with...

    Best CO high country unit

Hard to say which unit is the best because there are numerous units that fit your criteria. Many units on the west slope can produce great bucks and many have high country areas. Look at CDOW website and check out other resources like Google Earth to narrow down some units. Once you narrow...

    TOP 3 HARDCORE BOWHUNTER

Dwight Schuh has to be in my top three - the dude fashioned a bow to shoot with his mouth and killed a moose and muskox with it when he had to have shoulder surgery. Plus his book on spot and stalk muley hunting is classic and textbook. Others I respect - David Long, Nate Simmons, Roy Grace. I...

$140 Head Lamp is it worth it

Not for me. I'm sure its great and I'm a believer you need the best equipment money can buy, but I couldn't justify spending that kind of cash on one piece of gear - especially when there is gear on my wish list that I'd use much more than a headlamp. JMO.

    backpacking meals

I'd suggest going with various mtn. house meals. They are quick, easy and for the most part, pretty tasty. I took some to a Webelos camp one year and the kids devoured them - I doubt they had ever had them before. Good luck and have fun.

    Non-Res Colorado Experience

I have archery deer hunted a couple of times in OTC elk units and haven't had a seconds trouble with overcrowding. In fact, on one of the hunts I saw decent bulls daily and one really nice 340ish bull. Amazingly, I never saw another hunter until I got back to the main trail.

    High Elevation Deer hunts?

Some of the better early rifle hunts take 5,6,7 years to draw (right now). Many of these same areas can be drawn with a muzzy or a bow almost every year. These areas aren't likely considered trophy areas per se, but many of these units can produce some great 180-190+ bucks. I'd suggest you do...

Eberlestock Blue Widow vs Mystery Ranch NICE

I have owned and used both. I too was intrigued with the apparent versatility of the EBW, but I was disappointed in the pack because of how it carried a load. When weighted fully, the pack carried a load too far back and low for my tastes. I sold it and replaced it with a MR Crew Cab. I like...

    Rate Your Pack

MR Crew Cab - Solid A. Can haul a load well, plus compact enough to function as a day pack. MR NICE frame and Cerberus bag. Another A. Carries a load well plus enough room for 5 day bivy hunt. Sitka 45. B-. Fairly lightweight, but not a fan of the flimsy shoulder straps. Also, not very...

    Ultra Light Backpack Tent

Used the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 last season - great little tent. Light, sturdy in the wind (spent several very, very windy nights at 11,500ft) and plenty of room for one plus gear.
